The United States Coast Guard is searching for a shrimper last seen trying to salvage his boat near Venice. According to the Coast Guard, Timothy Cheramie was last seen on Thursday.
quote:
His boat has since been found with no one aboard. On Tuesday, the Coast Guard searched for Cheramie with a helicopter. A spokesperson told WDSU that the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office launched a boat to search by water but choppy conditions forced those efforts to be suspended. Family and friends of Cheramie, who is known by many as Uncle Blimp, said they are holding out hope for a miracle.

Timothy Cheramie went missing on Saturday. His family told WWL Louisiana that he has been found. "Mr. Cheramie has been located and reported safe, "The Coast Guard said on X, formerly known as Twitter
Anyone know the entire story? Doesn’t really make a ton of sense….what was he doing with the boat? From the article it doesn’t sound like it was damaged.
Guy is damn fortunate, you don’t hear many stories like this that have a happy ending, not to mention the weather that came through the other night.

he is a cajun
boat likely broke down and he was trying his best at fixing it. or it got stuck and he was waiting on higher tides to get it out.
those boats are easy to live off them for a week or more.
cajuns dont go calling the coast guard because they stuck or broke down, they fix it or do whatever it takes to not call for help

LINK to back when he was a star
Does not make any sense at all.
Couldn’t tell if that was actually at buras boat harbor or Venice marina but either way you’re only talking 5 miles from either location.
A lil bit of FB sleauthing and the cordinates that the family had posted of where his boat was found without him in it puts the boat not far from the tank battery off of grand pass going into riverside headed to the spillway.
Anyone familiar with the area knows how much traffic there is going through that every day.
Added a YouTube of when if was on big shrimping, prolly trying to get a book deal out of this.

Man that was my FIL, old-school Delacroix Island Isleno, grew up speaking Spanish before he learned English. I worked for him on his 60-foot trawler. We occasionally got into some tight spots but he wouldn't have called anybody for help until the boat was hopelessly sinking.

To keep from sinking in the mud under the shallow water.

Care to explain the physics? The corks on those aren’t exactly bouyant for someone weighing close to 250. Maybe standing on them? At best it’s horribly worded.

Cheramie says the whole adventure started when his boat became stranded in waters near the gulf. He says the coast guard took him home that night but the next day when a friend took him back to retrieve it and he couldn't get it moving, he knew he was in trouble.
Cheramie says he waited with his boat for three days, with no cell phone, hoping for help that never came. He says eventually he was forced to spring into action.
“I wasn’t giving up bro, no way. I wanted to because it was cold man," said Cheramie.
The 60-year-old says he went to an old camp where he found an aluminum table used for making soft shell crab. He says he took it, tied a tarp to it for a sail and started making his way through the bay home.
“If you turn it upside down, it’s got a little bit of flotation, so I jumped in it and I made me a sail. Tied it on a string. I said I’m going to sail across this bay one way or another, because if I don’t, I’m going to die," said Cheramie.
Copied from wdsu article , he built a sail boat and sailed it 8 miles. And nobody is questioning who his freind or enemy is that dropped him off at his boat and left him without making sure he was ok and could get back in?

Water temp at New Orleans Carrollton gauge is 50deg.
Not certain exactly where he was, cordinates the family had provided on FB showed his boat to have been found near grand pass. Heard from a buddy that he was by sandy point which is between buras and Venice, average water depth 5ft so potentially warmer.

I’m betting a 5 day bender.
