after you clean it as well as possible, without damaging, boil water in it, and leave a lid on in the steam will kill the mold that you’re talking about.

Build a fire and put the whole thing in there. Let it go until the fire burns out. Take it out the next day, hose it off, give it a quick scrub and start seasoning it again.

You left out “ dance around it in a circle under a full moon”. Cast iron isn’t that complicated.

ONLY reason I said to do all that, is because I had a pot a buddy borrowed and he “cleaned” it. I trusted him, so I picked it up without even looking. Went to use it about a month later and had fuzzy mold all in it. Pressure washed it, hit it hard with a scotch brite and re-burned it, it looked great. 2 weeks later had mold in it again, so I got serious. My only experience with mold in a pot didn’t resolve itself with the “just scrub it and oil it up” method, and what I suggested was what I ended up doing.
If he ain’t got the time, disregard.

I'd just throw it away. Then again I'd throw it away even if it was in perfect shape. Cast iron is a some bespoke bull shite.

Would love to hear your reasoning for this. I could use a good laugh.

Damn, you just reminded me of something I did when I was young.
I threw away a big cast iron skillet with a lid because I let it get some mold and rust. It was 6" deep and perfect for frying taters.
Now I have to go out in the yard and kick my own arse again.

Light your BBQ pit and put it on high

Wash the pot with just hot water and scrub as much as the Grodoo away as you can.

Rub oil all over top to bottom, inside and out and put it in the pit upside down, leave the heat on high for about 3-4 hours.

See what it looks like

You should be able to cure it more with another coat of oil, just make sure you get rid of all the rust

Heat it up again and let it cure.

It’s a process but it’s worth it.

I would not recommend doing this inside your house
