Got invited to fish big lake Monday and Tuesday. Should I plan on not catching anything because of the weather ? I’ve never fished that area
Thanks

Since your trip was a 2-day invite, why not have an optimistic attitude that you will have an awesome time fishing a new area ? Even if raining, fish still gotta eat, just listen to your guide on lures and presentation. Very good possibility that you will go home with a ziplok bag full of fillets. You may even get to see the pink dolphin.

You can't catch 'em in the kitchen. Just make sure you bring your frogg toggs. The lake has been pretty hit and miss but the flounder run is rolling. Report back on how you do if you don't mind. I'll be there next weekend.

you should catch some fat trout and flounder, even with the temp drops.

How long does the flounder run normally last?

I've got a trip planned for the beginning of November, and it will be my first time fishing Big Lake. I was hoping to score a mess of flounder.

The flounder follow the shrimp heading out to the gulf, you should hit it just right.
Gulp Chartreuse curly tail, on the ship channel near the ferry down south

Usually through the second or third cold front of the year. You can catch them anytime in the year but its usually hot now through the first weekend or so of November.

I'm in here today. Early morning rain kept most the boats out. Live shrimp. Quiet so far

I booked a guide a couple weeks ago, but I am coming down the afternoon before and staying the morning after the trip to try a little bank fishing.

Would I be wasting my time fishing the Northline Rec Area and West Cove Rec area in Sabine NWR? It sounds like the Ship Channel is "where it's at," but which side of the channel? Looking at the west side on Google Maps looks like some places where people pull off of 27 to fish the Ship Channel.

Rec areas can be good but I have never witnessed personally. The only spot to bank fish is south of the ferry, you can probably follow the trail/trash and get there. You will need an incoming tide for best results.

Just got through cleaning fish, ended up with 8 trout and 2 flounder, all on plastic. Best area was West Cove, all under birds, mostly around North end by ranger station. Wind kicked our arse today.
