Lawd, just drop my boat (36) roadside and follow my track to channel
Launch boat give Cassie $20 for a qt of live skrimps, motor east in Kelso and take the first cut to your right. Fish all that and let us know how you did later.

If any of y'all see a big boy and two small boys in a 1968 14' flat tomorrow that's us! !!

Man- Kemosabe should be a pro fisherman! ??
Launched at spicers, straight out, birds diving in that cut, oldest son caught a good slot red, then probably caught and threw back about a dozen mixed dinks. No other keepers.
Also caught some crabs in drop nets.
Not a bad little morning. Tohatsu went into limp mode once. I think from them leaving it sitting in water for 3 months may have some junk built up inside. Going to try and flush it out this afternoon.
Thanks for the advice! We will probably try again tomorrow.

There can be some good trout in that area at times. Glad yall had a good time!
Leaving the lowers submerged is asking for a new lower when they eventually leak. Better check LU grease and impeller.

Yeah. Mom's husband bought this 20 tohatsu new some time in the last year for his little flat boat. I have old toys- and take as good of care as I can to keep them perfect.
When I put the boat on the trailer he was like damn how is it so dirty! (Crud growing on hull and lower unit) i said bruh its been in the water since Easter with motor trimmed down.
I just asked him about the limp mode- he said yeah it does that some, if you stop and turn it off, and restart it goes away. yikes. I'll see what I can do. I've never touched a motor this new. Barefoot boat is a 95, and my "new" aluminum boat is a 2003 Johnson.
It was constantly peeing and pumping water, but that also does not mean its pumping at full volume.
We will probably go back out tomorrow morning! Thanks for the tips. That's easy in a tiny rig.

We take that cut once the tide comes in, make sure you’re visible to other boaters. Guides are the only people going through there and some come through hot.

Yep, we tucked up tight to one of the grass islands to stay out of people's way.
Also- probably been 10 years since I went down that way to launch- cajun fast mart bacon/egg/cheese/jalapeno mayo for breakfast was worth the trip by itself!

First time on this board in months, but Kemo fishes out there more than any of us. Was going to head down tomorrow, but leaving the house at 3:00am doesn't sound that appealing.
I fished a few weeks ago. Birds on the south end of the lake and channel ledges. We caught well the first day then absolutely nothing the last few.
I am convinced Big Lake is the hardest estuary to fish. I wish I lived closer to Grande Isle!

Saturday I had 17 good fish all on mullet, Sunday 7 with 2 over 5#.
Monday I rolled up and there were 2 boats on the spot
There are too many boats fishing too little water and too many guides.
There just aren’t enough good spots anymore to catch.

I still believe habitat is the biggest reason, but do you think all the pressure has alot to do with the lack of bigger fish that use to be there?
It's Big Lake but it aint that big.

Habitat is huge, dead reefs and turbidity from ships coming in more frequently now than ever. LNG ain’t decreasing, energy transfer will get their export license, Driftwood will be operational in 3 years.
Yes, I believe boat traffic affects the bite and have experienced the bite starting and stopping when the lake either got busy or calmed down.
Keepers under birds are almost nonexistent now, bigger fish are holding tight to bottom. Channel bites hit or miss, mostly miss for me.

You think this years freeze is having some effect? We’re catching quite a bit less than usual on the east side of the state.

I saw pictures from the last two hard freezes and it was a ton of fish that got killed. It has to have some impact.

using your big words today.
But I agree with you 100%. There needs to be some "rock islands" installed where washout used to be. Look at the old maps of big lake. South end islands are gone. Too much water flow from ships and tides has killed alot of the oyster reefs and a lot of spots people used to fish, which spread out the boats more.

quote:Just got back from Coco. Could not find bait shrimp. Saw no birds of any kind out where we fish. We struggled to catch many over 13 and this is usually a meat-haul trip. Lots of grumblings about the freeze at the bait places.

Dunno, I fished 1/20 day before and killed the reds but only kept 8.
Blame it on habitat or lack of, our coast is flaming out like a shooting star.
We could be Texas with a 3 trout coast wide limit?????
15 should’ve been 10 statewide but for muh politics.

Question. I know you’re a guide. So I have a question. We normally take a guided trip once a year down in coco. We skipped this year. Limits went down, which I am fine with, but the price went way up. Is it the same where you guide?
Posted on 7/2/25 at 9:41 pm to jorconalx
Everybody is still around $750/boat (3) but we have a ton of guides for the size of our lake which keeps prices depressed. Zero idea what mid coast guides are charging but I know Venice boys are over $1,000.

Fishing with Kemo is worth $1,000/day just because the knowledge and life lessons you will walk away with afterwards.
