Is there a location in southeast LA that is more consistent for inshore in January and February? Or is it just find the deep holes and not as much of an issue as where they are located. Have a friend looking to book a guide soon. Thanks for any info here.

you can fish out of the Rigolets area...access to Lake Pontchartrain Lake Bourgne the intercostal water way and the marsh areas off of it...
several landings to use with live bait if you fish that way...

I keep hearing Lake P is on fire but I am not seeing it. Of course, I don't fish with live bait, but I hit 6 different canals and deep bayou/canal intersections and had zero strikes on swim baits, jerk baits, spoons, popping corks, etc.
Totally different story than just a month or two ago when I could've had my limit several times either trout, bass, or reds.
I think for this area, once the word is out it's too late.

if you are fishing lake ponchartrain the same way you fish the marsh then you will never catch anything of note.
lake ponchartrain needs to be fished differently, everything is centered around baits moved slowly along the bottom on bouncing off the bottom a few inches so it hits the bottom every time
fish it with a jig right against any form or structure like you are bass fishing punching a jig through thick weeds, straight up and down right up tight to the pilings

I don't fish too often anymore, but a favorite winter spot was the holes in Hospital/ Yellow Cotton Bay between Buras and Venice. Launch at the pumping station and you could fish all day on a couple of gallons of gas.

A few years ago we booked Bayou Charters out of Hopedale the last week of January. It wasnt Charlie but one of the other Captains. Turned out to be the coldest day of the year with high of 35 and wind howling. When we started it was low 20s. The Captain was pissing and moaning about having to go out, but he found us some holes and got us on some reds. We actually really enjoyed the trip and embracing the suck made it even better I think.
If you are going, know that late Jan to early Feb is pretty much the worst time to go. Weather is guaranteed to be shite for one reason or another. Wind, cold, low water, lock jaw fish, and pretty much a neccessity to fish live/dead shrimp. Someone may correct me but Im pretty sure redfish will be all you will have a a shot at.

Yeah thanks, that's good advice.
But I should be clear, what I mean by Lake P is the whole estuary including Bayou Lacombe, Bayou Liberty, The Rigolets, Chef Pass, and all the marsh around those areas.
I suppose to most people Lake P could mean the trestles but I don't hit those very often in my little skiff.
