What's your favorite trout line bait for around piers for any kinds of fish and what depth. Never done a trout line thinks of running a couple from pier to a tree or a post.

Depends what target fish is but nothing beats live bait. Bream- and the bigger the better. Carp too.

It's messy as hell, but liver wrapped in stockings works well for us.

its "trot" as in a horse trots along
and for bait a big favorite when you can get it is live crawfish
stinky cheese is good too and set out a hoop net to catch some brim and cut the big ones into chunks and the small ones use whole and alive if you can keep them that way.
google how to do it since there are several ways and i have heard its best to use "bird lines" where the bait is kept off the bottom so it lasts longer and the crabs dont get to it

Very cheap bait that I have had success with is corn. Just buy a can of corn and bait all of your hooks with it.

Live crawfish and chinquapin alternating hook to hook. Don’t forget to use swivels and easily detachable clips per hook line or you may end up at the ready med.
Good luck!
Good luck!

is it legal to use bream for bait? aren't they a game fish?

Bream are legal, crappie and bass, not legal. Small mudcat are also good, last along time. Just cut the dorsal fin down.

It's a matter of how they are caught. You can't trap them for bait other than on Toledo Bend. If caught by hook/line, there's no issue.

Fresh shad, bream, turtle, mullet and pogies.

I also bait lines with cut white trout and mud cat.

Not sure if this would translate to trot lines, but in the summer I was using red hotdogs to bait jug lines. Go to walmart and get a few packs of the $0.99 Great Value brand. Get a bottle of minced garlic and a bottle of Worcestershire sauce and mix it in a gallon ziplock bag. Put it in the fridge so it stays firm and bait your hooks with it.

I tried the Ivory soap deal a couple weeks ago. 40 hooks baited with the soap yielded 2 channel cat in about 36 hours. At the same time 40 hooks baited with cold worms yielded 14 blues, channels and 1 30lb flat head. This is in a Mississippi river borrow pit. Based on my experience trot lining that borrow pit with these baits I rank them as follow:
Cold Worms
Chicken Liver
Shiners/gold fish
Garlic soaked wieners (cheap arse red wieners soaked in minced garlic).
Chicken Hearts (much easier than livers, don't work as good)
