I try my hardest to leave my cranks in the box. Let's just say they're as sharp as the day I bought em.

i use a 4/6 hook size on small crankbaits
and the rear treble is red in color....

i use janns netcraft for my baits and do all the split rings and hooks myself.

The rotating kind rock. I used to lose so many fish on traps before finding those. If it touches the fish somewhere, it bites.

What kind of rod? I use spinning reels so I'll have to match it to that.

Loomis CBR843

Ask Sportsman about em.

Not sure if Loomis makes a crankbait rod for a spinning reel. I'm sure St. Croix makes a med-mod spinning rod though.

reguardless of hook quality this is why I don't use "crankbait rods". A slightly lower power rod than I'd otherwise fish (like say a M Fast rod for a 5/8 oz crank instead of a MH Fast) works just as well for me.

Although there are better graphite cranking rods (such as the one you mention) available now where the weight doesn't kill you, I still don't care for slow rods. Same goes when I fish for redfish and specs.

btw...cheap graphite inshore rods are a MUCH more economical option for freshwater cranking rods.

I don't see how they'd actually make that much of a difference really.

All over. I live in BR so I run any where I can get within 1.5hrs of my house. Say Slidell to Laffy.

I fish more west..Lake Charles, to Toledo Bend.
Sometimes Indian Creek or Chicot.
Did fish Big Alabama a few weeks back.
I rather Toledo or saltwater though.

They don't allow the fish to throw the hooks.

Tedious work but it's kinda cool doing all that yourself

I bet....I know when I cut that 11" worm into a 3" grub and started nailing the bass that was pretty rewarding..

My buddy in the boat who wouldn't share his baits with me was amazed.
He was a little shell shocked though from setting the hook on nothing and hitting himself dead in the eye with the weight.

I never set the hook straight back to me (on point)

Then you must not crankbait fish very much. The GLoomis CBR is the cadillac of crankbait rods. I've fished with one for a long time. Those fish that are barely hooked will be gone with a stiff rod. It's also great for small top water lures.

You guys should try the SBR series.
