Got a 30kw diesel sitting on 100 gallon tank. 3300sf 3acs etc. runs everything. A lot less to buy and hook up. Only have to run electrical.

Diesel is not the most fun thing to try to find after a hurricane.

How does it do on the diesel? How long does 100 gallons last?

A 30 kw diesel generator burns roughly 1.6 gallons loaded at 50%. 2.2 at 75%. You are looking at being able to run 2-3 days when running 24 hours a day.

You dont have to unplug anything. The smart grid ge generator will cycle the major appliances for you. Also, the reason you would want to get the 20kw symphony generator instead of a 36K is about 10,000 difference in prices.

I know my grandparents generac completely locked up at some point and I believe that was the problem.

When I put in my Kohler, just before Gustav, the Generacs came with a 2 year warranty.

Kohlers have a 5 year warranty (of course they cost more).

msu202020 - only 2200 sq ft living. 5 ton A/C unit, 2 fridges, 2 electric water heaters, electric dryer, LCD TVs, and a ton of fans/lights. I also have a small portable A/C/dehumidiffier unit in my office that I will run on occasion during really hot/humid days to make sure my cigars are kept at the right temperature/humidity.

What issues should I discuss with electrician?

Purchased a Generac 20 Kw yesterday at Stine lumber, tax free weekend $4644.00. Will be delivered in 3-4 weeks. Auto transfer switch and 200 amp breaker included. I will connect to LP gas.

Is the stove natural gas? Plan on running oven?

Be sure the Automatic Transfer Switch is service entrance rated. Also, once the transfer switch is installed, the neutral needs to be disconnected from the ground in your main panel (the panel that use to be the service entrance)

Without doing a complete load check, I think you are appopriately sized at 20 KW. Also, you may need to change your gas meter out due to the pressure required for the generator. Have the contractor or whoever does the install to check this with the generator manufacturer.

If you have any questions, let me know.

I have a 15.5Kw Generac and run it off of the propane tank.

have everything but the central AC on it. automatically comes on after 4hrs of no power and then cycles 4hr on/ 4hrs off unless you override it.

My neighbor has a 15kw guardian and it has served him well through Gustave and Isaac. They are pretty loud though. Sounds like a riding lawn mower. I have a 20Kw northern lights diesel wired in with a double throw disconnect. Downsides are that i have to go out and manually start it whereas his is automatic and the diesel has more up front cost and of course maintenance. That said the natural gas ones aren't made to run 24/7 for long periods like my diesel. Also my diesel generator is substantially quieter. And i don't have to worry about a tree uprooting and taking out my gas supply.
