The clear fingernail polish is good for individual sites, and the medicated Chiggaway is just that - medicated clear fingernail polish.
However, I stumbled upon a remedy that works pretty tried and true - I discovered during the early portion of my military career.
I would come in from the field, dirtier than all get out. I would go directly to the bathroom and run a hot, hot bath, adding 1 capful of bleach to an entire tub. I would soak for at least 30 minutes, then shower. I rarely had residual red bug problems after this technique.

I usually scrub the piss out of them with rubbing alcohol to dry it up. Do the same with poison ivy.

Not much you can do except treat the itch.
Sure you can. While what you say is generally true too.
If you really really look closely you can see them in the pores of your skin. Take a sharp pointed knife (I use my finely honed Case Trapper)and dig, lift, pluck em out. They don't embed themselves to the point that you can't see them. A magnifying glass helps.
For prevention, keep a container of sulfur dust in your ditty bag at all times and dust your socks and lower legs with it before you enter their domain.

The pharmacist shared a secret with me the other day and it worked great! Dr tishners. (Mouthwash, been around for a long time). I now keep it in a spray bottle. It works on any kind of bite. Almost instant.
Been using that stuff for bites since i was a kid.
Didn't realize it was mouth wash until i got older.

Not a chigger, they do not burrow in your skin. it is a piece of their mouth, broken off. that will do more damage than good.
Treatments are similar to poison ivy, benedryll etc...

Tuck your jeans inside your boots and spray your boots with bug repellent. Good way to avoid redbugs. Unless you are rolling around in the woods like a tard.

You can also wear pantyhose under your BDUs like we used to do.

What I listed works. I ended up in the hospital during my second week in the field during annual training. I was juiced with steroids and was fricking miserable.

Never heard panty hose, but if had I would have tried it. I started treating my clothes with permethrin. We got them so bad a Ft Polk you could make out the outlines of our gear on our bodies.

A Chigger is a Redbug a Redbug is a Chigger:
How to Get Rid of Chiggers or Red Bugs
By Jess Jones, eHow Contributor
Chiggers or red bugs are also known as harvest mites. Young chiggers need to feed on animals in order to mature into adult chiggers. In this stage, they are parasites that feast on animals and humans to survive. Chiggers are most often found in nooks and crannies of your skin, such as in the underarm area, elbows and behind the knees. Although chiggers do not burrow into your skin, removal of a chigger requires a gentle scraping of the bug to loosen its grip. Does this Spark an idea?
