Depends how you are going to fish. If you are anchoring it is hard to beat dead shrimp on a shell bottom. If you find some running water coming out of the marsh shrimp under a cork will work too. If trolling bass style I would recommend a spinner bait with a cocahoe instead of a skirt or the trusty old gold spoon.

ETA: if the water is crystal clear I have caught them on a black spoon as well.

Going for some reds around the rocks in Lake Boudreaux this weekend. Have any of these baits changed since the spring or what? What are the reds craving this time of the year?

Are they biting artificial right now? Spinners? Gonna throw a few crabs in the canal overnight and see what we can pick up.

Dead Shrimp usually...
Sometimes they will only take finger mullets about 4 inches long.
Sometimes on the bottom sometimes on a cork.
Sometimes gulp shrimp tipped with croaker.
Just have to see what the pattern is.

I'm going to Big Lake tomorrow...
Good Luck.

Had to edit....if you get into Bull Reds I like whole crabs..caught my biggest ones on that.
One over 40# and several in the 30's.

Thanks again Cadello. Good luck, and let us know how it is. I'm still pissed I didn't go the other weekend.

Right now you can catch them with a booger they are so thick.

I fish plastic mostly. My wife fishes gold Wabblerights and she smokes them.
