My stepdad has had a camp on the river in Felsenthal for twelve years or so

After hunting season is over or early spring mid February put out about three-four dozen yo-yo's in the shallow bushes/trees in the flooded woods.

bait em right at dark with minnows

You'll catch all kinds of crappie, bass, cats. Once you catch bass go back through the area during the day with lures.

Buddy of mine has a floating camp up there , we kill them when the water is right

Thanks for the advice. I am trying to plan a trip up there right now, I want to go check on the camp at least, and try to scout some areas to hunt. Would love to catch some fish while there.

Check the regulations on yo-yo's, Louisiana is fine with them but I'm not sure about Arkansas or if you have to put your name etc on them.

Not sure if you've ever done it but it's a blast, we run ours 3-4 times a night to keep them baited. We've caught 50-100 big crappie in a night multiple times.

They come out of the river and spawn in shallow flood water early, mid/end of February is usually best.

South Texas, you could settled down in the Golden Triangle and be surrounded by book deer, go a couple hours to the west and be at Falcon which is one of the best big bass lakes the country, or go a couple hours to the east and be at Baffin Bay or Port Mansfield chasing double digit speckle trout. Better have a big wallet though.

Our camp is in Louisiana now that I’ve thought about it. We launch somewhere around Huttig, Arkansas but our boat ride takes us south just a bit back into Louisiana.

Then we most definitely have some mutual friends.

there is no area of Alabama that the deer hunting that you could compare to here in South Georgia.

I'd put up the Alabama Black Belt against anywhere in South Georgia, especially along the Tombigbee

Pickwick has the state record for smallmouth. My buddy has a picture of a deer swimming across part of yellow creek lesiurely.

I was skiing in Bear Creek around the end of July and looked over and saw a nice 6 point still in velvet swimming by me. The plumber I use in Collierville kills big bucks on public land around the lake that he accesses by boat, but I think he hunts on the Alabama side
