I've always been a fan of Wilderness System kayaks. Been fishing them since 2006. Stand, sit sideways, and they can hold 400lbs. You can fit alot of beer and icechest on those sit-on-tops! I've owned 10', 12', and 13.5' versions over the years. The 135 Ride/Radar is my favorite yak

quote:PA 14 with the 180 drive. I’m happy with it because I like the space and stability.
But tell me more about your Hobie, which model, do you wish you would have went bigger or smaller?
quote:Its heavy. I’m fairly young and in decent shape, so its not too bad for me. But some people will think its a bit more weight than they want to deal with or can handle loading and unloading by themselves.
How is it to load/unload froma truck
I’ve fished out of a buddy’s Outback before and there’s definitely some pros and cons between that and the Pro Angler. Less space and storage, but the Outback is more manueverable (especially if you have to pull the drive and paddle because its shallow or grassy). And the Outback is abour 40 lbs lighter, so its a whole lot easier loading and unloading
quote:I think thats more of a personal preference. Hobie was the first pedal kayak I got into and by the time I tried a bicycle style one, I was very used to the Hobie pedals. So the bicycle style just felt weird to me. But I know guys in Natives and Old Towns that say the same about the Hobie style drive feeling weird to them.
How is the pump action of the drive vs a bicycle action
Not sure where you’re located but a lot of kayak dealers host demo days where you can test out a few different brands/models on the water. Masseys in NOLA usually does demo days once a month I think on Bayou St John near City Park.

Yea I did a demo with Masseys last weekend at Bayou St. JOHN. I didnt have enough time to jump in a Hobie but I think I should.

Jackson makes the best paddle kayaks on the market. Great tracking kayaks and easy to paddle.

UPDATE - I bought a Nucanoe Unlimited today. Wasn't on my radar at first, but I'll put a bow mount trolling motor on it. Extremely stable and customizable.

Looks nice. How do you plan to rig the TM? Hand controls by the seat?

Nah, wireless fob control and/or foot control pedal.

Had no idea you could put a bow mount on there. The video on their site looks great. Love all the open space on those things.

Yep they make their own bow mount for a quick release bracket, so does One Objective. Motorguide XI3 55lb with pinpoint GPS/Spotlock seem to be the most popular.
