Best GPS for Building Hunting Land Maps

I was from the old school back in 2003 when the technology was just being introduced. So I’m familiar with the process.....I’m just curious to what programs or new GPS multi mapping options are out there.
I have a buddy that wants to plot and mark all of his stands, roads and boarders and make a hunting camp map. He has a plotter at the office, so we can print a big one.
Do the new GPS devices have a “make map” option or built in templets?
Also, we are wanting to over lay on a larger Satellite image. Can you do this all through EsRI now? I used to run ArcGIS but there’s got to be easier ways to do this now.
Advice welcomed.
Hope all you baws are safe

On X hunt Premium option (1 state) $29 , and Elite option (all 50 states) for $99. Lots of great features including land owners name so you can inquire about hunting privileges. Even with no cell phone service, app and maps still work with GPS.

I use onx for hunting out west. We use hunt stand for our local lease. Gives you the option to print a very large map with stands, roads, gates marked individually.

Have you ever seen The DeLourme Gazatteer topographical maps for your state? They are super detailed, and most of the work is already done for you.

I think you can do everything you are wanting with Google Maps pretty easy. I used to use ONX when I lived back in MS but use GAIA up here. I have the premium version so you can layer different maps on top of each other (boundary on top of topo, on top of satellite, etc). You can also use it in airplane mode so it still tracks where you are.
I also use Garmin for my Inreach Explorer and will be connecting it to my new EchoMap when the lake thaws. I think I could probably do everything you are talking about with it as well. If you create it in Google Earth you can probably export it to Explore Garmin and vice versa.

Google Earth/Maps is really good and free. I'm sure there are some features that the pro software has that aren't available there but for a hunting camp why spend that kind of money? If he had need for OnX features like boundary info on public lands or if he had multiple properties then sure. If he had access to other technology because of work necessity then I could see it but Google is great for the price.
