What is it about big cats that they don't understand they could kill 4,5,6 dogs?

Sure they could, but at what risk? They get injured, say a broken bone or a cut that may get infected, they don't have a doctor to go to. Nor can they just get there next meal at the drive-thru. Injuries could affect hunting ability which means survival. Why risk that when you can simply run and climb a tree?

The average male gray wolf weights between 80-99 Lbs.

May need a bigger dog and more than one.

Wolf pound for pound is stronger, more agile than a dog. They are some amazing fighting animals.

Yea I think it'd take a pack to bay one wolf. It'd be like lion hunting minus the tree part.

Some of the stealthiest critters too. I'm a bit fascinated by them. We've got several resident packs and very few people have seen them.

By the time they tree they are spent. Cats have different tissue from dogs. They don't go on long runs. Dogs are built for that. Cats have burst strength. Once it's used up, they're done. Cat comes down that tree at the end of a chase one or two dogs might cop it, but the rest will kill him.

If the cat would fight first instead of run first, he would wreck a pack, but he'd still likely die from it later so it's better to run to a tree and wait them out.
