Best 1911 manufacturer?

I've searched the web tirelessly trying to find the best answer but everyone has their own opinion. Best recurring things I found were that Kimber sucks and I should spend at least a grand if I want a decent one. I know its an outdated gun but I can't get over that and want one so bad. I'll use it for home defense but may end up carrying it someday. Any experiences or advice?

FWIW I'm looking at Sig Sauer and Springfield Armory.

Buy whatever you want but in the back of your mind you will always want a Colt.

And for good reason-

- First manufacturer of the 1911
- All American made
- More forged parts than anyone

You clearly don't know what you're doing.

Both good choices.

The best is a custom maker like Nighthawk or Ed Brown.

All jokes aside, it really depends what the OP would use it for....does he want a show piece, carry piece, range piece, or something to throw around and not give a shite about. I have a different answer for all those.

Try to find a brazil made Springfield. You can get them for $400 or so.

range piece

Really depends if shooting comps or not, but I'll give both. STI Trubor for comps, Springfield range officer or TRP for range use. I could make a list a mile long for the range.

carry piece

Get something in commander size 4", again could literally make a list a mile long. Make sure it has night sights (jmo). Kimber gets a bad rap for no reason lately other than they are the cool thing to hate on.

show piece

Higher end models and I'm heavy on Ed Brown. Wilson's are just as good I just don't like their aesthetics. Nighthawk is the new kid and they are making an awesome name for themselves! Volkmann's are really really nice I just think they are severely overpriced.

Sig P220 Compact?

(Or even better, a discontinued Sig P245 - I almost cannot miss with the thing.)
