I need some advice on fishing off of the Galveston beach. I'm about to move there so I hope to get a lot of good fishing in. The main things id like to find out is what kind of fish id be fishing for, what kind of bait to use, what size string I would need, and any other tips that could help me out. I haven't done much saltwater fishing in my days but ive done a good amount of freshwater fishing. Any good spots would also be helpful

Facebook link to big shark. I don't FB, got it from Google
Yes, i fish in the surf, fun catching specs and slot reds, not a fan of bull reds, and i hate thinking about sharks that big when I'm standing on the 2nd or 3rd sand bar with fish on a stringer.

September/October be good for bull redfish in the surf. Google that and you should find plenty on rigging and techniques

Take the ferry over to Bolivar peninsula and fish on the bay side near Roll Over Pass. At low tide you can wade out waste deep and catch flounder. You can also catch Red Fish running through the pass itself.

Don't become a statistic, wear a pfd every trip over there.

We have a camp on bolivar. Wade fish the surf when the wind turns out of the north or is calm. Learn what water color to look for. I drive the beach until I see bait activity. You can fish the Galveston surf the same. If you wade san Louis pass or roll over wear a life jacket. Drop offs are constantly moving around and the tide rips through there. Good luck.

pfd and ray guards. Let me know if you want a partner. Always up to fish Galveston.
