stay away from that kind of crap. it is unfounded and intended to keep your attention rather than keep you informed.

If they did bring cement to surface then they are fricked.
LA Serial # appears to be 180708. Looks like they had multiple sets of casing with 8 5/8" tubing below casing and the hole was only cased down to 2,500 feet or so originally with TD about 5,926'? Probably would have to look at the well file to determine top of cement on their inside string. I'm not real familiar with these brine wells but it looks like the state must require multiple surface protection strings unlike most oil wells with one string of surface casing. Looks like they had a 13 3/8" inflatable packer in their production casing and put 10' of sand on top of that prior to filling with cement from the set depth at 2,520' to surface. Have to drill out 2,520' of cement to get to that packer. There is a new permit with almost the same name but it doesn't indicate if it is a new well or a re-entry of the plugged well.

that could take a while.
Does anyone know what the point of the relief well is?

To send down diagnostic tools. They'll send camera and sonar into the bore to determine what kind of damage has occurred in the well.

I'm guessing to ascertain the location of the breach. They were calling it an observation well this morning. I would think dropping dynamite for a good 3D seismic shot would be frowned upon.

According to Texas Brine, the driving of the rig casing will begin this evening between 7:00 p.m. and midnight.

Worst case scenarios
I read the letter and it seems correct. Like I said before, the fear of a large explosion is extremely silly for a multitude of reasons. Crosstex describes why you will not have a large hydrocarbon release to atmosphere. The 1.5 thermonuclear devices was by far the dumbest thing I've heard mentioned with regards to this situation.

The "H-Bomb" article actually referenced "Wikipedia scientific data".
Who the hell references Wikipedia and attempts to pass themselves off as credible?

Example of a brine cavern collapse. This particular collapse is threatening an entire town.

Where is that. Looks like west somewhere.

Another bubble site was discovered yesterday between sites #3 and #4 in Grand Bayou. The bubbling is small and will be monitored daily as the others. The sinkhole site is still prohibited; therefore, cleanup in the site is still halted and no recent depth measurements have been taken. The parish has requested Texas Brine to provide a plan for a continuation of the cleanup.
New bubble site found.
I guess with the recent caveins, they are not allowed in boats on the slurry.

How's the hurricane going to effect this?
Posted on 8/27/12 at 12:56 pm to hashbrowns
I was wondering the same thing. Not really sure, it's already in a swamp so rain shouldn't affect anything.
I checked the blog and all info is about hurricane.

So,how far are these new bubbles from Dow's Grand Bayou site?
Posted on 9/4/12 at 12:05 pm to Nodust
Just checked the Assumption blog since the hurricane, not much change. More bubble spots, sinkhole hasn't grown any, and relief well still in progress.
quote:
Three new bubbling spots have been identified and confirmed; in Bayou Corne, Grand Bayou, and Triche Canal. DEQ will pull samples to investigate and the spots will be monitored. Once lab results are available, they will be posted.
Drilling operations continue on schedule. Preparation for the 10 3/4? casing has been completed and the stabbing of that casing will take place all day today. After complete, the casing must be cemented in and that will take 48 hours to cure. Once that step is complete, preparation for the 7? casing which will actually enter the salt. That step is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
