No, the fishery is sustainable at that level. Reducing the number would have no effect on the fisher and perhaps make it worse due to the carrying capacity of the ecosystem. If you fish and feel like you don't need that many trout, make it a personal choice and don't keep them. TBH when I go I keep as many as I'm legally allowed, but when I get home I generally only keep enough fillets for my family to eat fresh. The rest go to family and friends who don't fish.

FWIW speckled trout is about $14/lb at Harbor Seafood in Kenner

Is that for fillets? You can get it whole for 4.99 in Slidell.

Mislabeling and renaming of fish has been a problem for a long time.

yep...it is absolutely rampant. and the trouble is, very few people can actually tell what kind of fish they are eating. If you look closely, a ton of restaurants have a disclaimer in very small print that they can basically interchange any variety of fish any time they want without telling you. I find this to be such a little known fact that when I see this notation on the menu, I ask the waitress whether they substitute fish and they seldom know what I am talking about.

I have not the slightest clue how to even begin to sell trout to someone.

You mean to tell me I've been giving my mom $60-70 worth of fish?? No wonder she will drive all the way from mandeville to metairie to pick it up.

Not sure I could cover costs of fuel for truck/boat by selling trout, let alone actually paying for a boat and all the other maintenance costs, fishing gear, equipment.

Really, it's less than that at Langenstein's for goodness sakes.
I give, I don't sell.
