We hunt in SE Plaquemines Parish marsh. We saw big gators this year. We didn’t try to measure them, but I’m certain some were significantly longer than 8 ft…and thick!

Interesting observation. I have been around gators my whole life both in the swamp and marsh and have noticed the same thing. Definitely seem to see more gators in the marsh. Could have something to do with population. I was told by an old trapper who certainly saw the same thing that he thought it has to do with their diet. Marsh gators are eating mainly turtles and fish while swamp gators are eating more meaty creatures, such as raccoons, hogs, deer etc…. I can’t say for sure, but it makes sense

Guess you have never been to Pier 90 or Des Allmends. 12 -14 footers are common

Agreed. Next time you are on Hwy 90 going from Luling towards Pier 90 take a look at the south side of the Davis Pond diverson bridge. Sometimes there will be 100's of gators there in the current.
