I'm still kicking myself for passing on a stag ar pistol for 860 last week. Got my mind made up to wait for a bcm, but dont think that's gonna happen, unfortunately.

I would go with the Ruger with full float hand guard instead of the one linked above. Ruger ARs are good to go. I almost got one but went with a more upgraded Springfield. Stag Arms mentioned by another poster would also be an excellent choice. These basic AR 5.56s are all very much similar and you can always add or swap components in future if you start shooting it and decide you want a different grip or trigger or stock or muzzle device, etc. Just get either the Ruger or the Stag with a red dot and it will be an awesome weapon.

Ruger full float handguard available

ETA: Also for ammo just go on palmetto state armory website and click to get notified when the ammo item you want is in stock. They seem to restock every few days or every week but it will sell out within hours. You get the notification and then go buy it, simple. You cant just go pick up 5.56 from the store anymore, but there is a lot out there online, just set up notifications for when various retailers have it in stock. I've bought 1400 rounds from PSA in the last month like this.

I say go with an M&P 22 for $500.

.22LR $80/1000rds.

Beats $500+ for a 1000rd case of .223

Red dots are good for personal protection but I got an AR not really knowing what I was going to do with it.
yes

After getting a red dot, I wanted something that could shoot a little further so I got an Elcan m145. It’s a 3.5x magnification and the reticle illuminates nicely.
Yes
AR platform gives you infinite options.
That's the appeal.

It’s difficult to rapid fire with any accuracy, and you end up wasting $15 in ammo in a few seconds and not hitting your target much.
no. This is silly.
I can unload out to 30-50 yards and not miss a hit. 50-100, still a decent hit rate.
And you're still going to have an accurate platform if you take your time out to whatever your projectile limitations are.

If you live in Louisiana and arent all ready in the Shreveport/bossier area. Ron’s guns in bossier has a bunch of ARs available for sale if you want to make the drive.
