I am interested in buying one of these types of guns assuming I can find one. What do I need to I know? I want it primarily for shooting, but also protection in my house. I currently keep a shotgun with buckshot, but I want more than 3 rounds. Thanks.

I am in this same situation right now. From most of the research I am doing I will probably end up having to buy a complete upper/lower or stripped parts and build one.

PSA seems to have some stock of parts and pieces.

How much are you looking to spend and are you wanting a 5.56 or some other caliber?

Finding ammo will also be a very big deal right now unfortunately.

That is kinda what I was hoping to find out. Where should I start? My brother has a .22 I believe. I am not very knowledgeable about firearms. I have only ever owned shotguns for hunting. However, in these times I think it would be wise to have more.

For your 1st, I’d probably recommend a 5.56/.223

A .223 Wylde is a chamber that can take both as well so if you see a rifle with that chambering don’t pass over it.

If one is only .223, I’d probably pass on it.

A 5.56 can shoot both 5.56 and .223
A .223 can only shoot .223
A.223 Wylde can shoot both

I would jump on this if you want one.

Won’t be there long:

CDNN sports

Company is good to go. You need a local FFL to ship it to.

Take the plug out screw on extension tube.

Problem solved...

Thank you. How does the process of buying online work?

Most of the bigger online companies that sale online have local FFLs that they have done business with, if that is the case you pick the local place from their list and have it shipped there to complete the background check. If the local place isn’t on their list, the local FFL will have to send them a copy of their FFL so the place you purchase from can ship it to them

Buy gun online
Have it shipped to an FFL (day lafayette shooters)
Go to FFL and run background check
Take gun home

About 3 extra clicks in comparison to purchasing a pair of shoes online.

Not a lot out there right now. Best bet is you can prob find a dpms ar 15 somewhere. Dependable .223 for about 800.00

Thanks all. I talked to my brother and his co-worker has a FFL. He builds them custom and said he can do one for me for about $1k. Here is the breakdown. Is this decent?

You really don't want the quad rail. See what he can do on a Mlok or keymod rail.

I'd personally buy the Ruger over that.

Why? I am not doubting, but trying to learn. I want something more compact.

They would be the same length but there just isn't anything special on that build that justifies $1000.
before all this started that gun was $600-650 tops.

That's just my personal opinion. Others may disagree.
