I'm right handed and left eye dominant... I've always just closed my left eye when shooting a shotgun... another thing I tried recently that helped is only wearing my contact in my right eye. I got the idea of from hearing about putting a piece of scotch tape over one lense on your shooting glasses so you still get full light using both your eyes but your other "non dominant" eye is the one that focuses.

I don't have a dominant eye. I can shoot ambidextrously.

I have to close the opposite eye to be able to hit anything though.

its a muscle memory thing, he can start by learning to hold his left eye shut, that is the first step and it takes a bit of time to teach your body to react to a movement its not used to

I am right handed and am left eye dominant. I can't close my left eye and leave my right eye open. I just can't. I have to manually close my left eye. Some people are just that way. I shoot a pistol right handed but shotgun and rifle left handed.

I am not a fan of the eye patch because ... well this is the outdoor board so everyone here is a gun owner most likely. A large percentage of those carry a gun for self defense. If you need to shoot for self defense and need an eye patch to be able to aim ... well thats not going to work well. This is the same reason why I haven't forced myself to shoot a pistol left handed. While I can shoot with my offhand I can't draw from concealment for shite left handed. I just don't have the dexterity to do it. If I need to draw for self defense it needs to be natural and quick. Thus I shoot with my right hand as the primary.

What really helped me be able to aim better with both eyes open and the left eye dominant problem is to offset your right eye. Meaning while shooting turn your head slightly to the right. This puts the left eye in front of the right and your brain will focus with the left eye more than the right. This allow you to use the dominant eye with the other still open.

It helped me immensely.

My now 8 yr old is the same way. I had him a Savage 243 youth bolt but it was awkward using his left eye with a right handed rifle. I bought him a CVA youth Hunter single shot. Problem solved. My little girl now uses the 243 so it all worked out.

I am right handed and was right dominate. Cataract in my right eye forces me to go left. Not looking to have surgery to fix it right now. Also never YouTube cataract surgery.

Noted. I did have lasik almost 16 years ago. I imagine it may be close to the same as cataract.

Only thing that bothered me during the procedure was the burning smell.
