I know, I know, don't NEED a 10 gauge but as a collector and hunting some with a buddies Remington Sp10 last year I got the bug. I don't want a pump, so I am not really looking at the bps, but as far as semi's go this board is always a wealth of knowledge.

I was reading up on them and the Browning g10 seems to be hit or miss on if they are producing them and I was going to start scouring the gun shops for a decent used 10.

I understand the Ithaca mag10 stopped production in the late 80s but I figured it was worth asking here as I am sure someone has some experience with them (either using them or in a safe from their dad or grandpaw).

TLDR: The mag10, if one was intent on adding a 10 gauge to the ever growing collection, does anyone have experience with them or should I shy away or wait until/if Browning brings back the gold 10?

Ithaca 10 and Remington SP10 are the same gun, I have a Gold 10 and haven't had any trouble with it.

x2 on no troubles with the Gold 10. Performed well to reach out and touch high flying geese and strutting toms across the field.

Yeah that was what I read. Good to know on the b10 I have come across a few ithiicas in varying conditions and I will keep an eye out for a browning. Not something I am buying today or anything and maybe browning will get new ones back in stock.

Thanks guys. Always helpful.

I have heard that #4 buckshot through a full choke will wad snow geese up at 80 yds and maybe then some.

Great for shooting crippled big ducks. We called ours “Big Bertha”.

@White Bear I may take you up on that.

I have both an Ithaca 10 that was my dad's and I have an SP 10 from the first year Remington started making them. Dad and I used them for geese many years back.

They are super heavy and gas operated I would rather shoot one of those than my SBE II or III. They don't kick at all and are very nice guns just SUPER heavy.

Only with the proper lead and factoring in the direction and velocity of the wind........

I have an SP10. I got it a few years after Remington took the brand. Pretty much got it because I just thought it was cool to have a 10 gauge. Kinda like taking a sledge hammer to kill flies when a fly swatter would work. It’s heavy as all get out so very little recoil but it’s a safe queen now. Really no use when a modern day 3.5” 12 gauge with todays ammo can pretty much do the same job.

Yeah like I said it isn't necessary but my buddies sp10 patterns so tight and consistently like a pancake compared to may sbe2,sbe3, current A5, and Beretta A400 all 28" barrels with code black duck full chokes (and stock full chokes) with 3.5" equivalent ammo (or as close to matching of the loads we tested as possible between 10 and 12 ammo). Still gonna kill em when you bring em in and far.

Like I said, I don't NEED it, I just want one. I hunted most of my childhood and most of this season with a 20 gauge and killed a lot of ducks. Watched an older buddy I hunt with kill a LOT of big ducks with a 28 gauge last two seasons, I know it isn't necessary but I just like shotguns.

ETA: I typo-ed a300 and meant a400 on the Beretta.

Shot an Sp-10 for about 20 years, and A Browning 10 Ga for over 10 years. Both are excellent guns, with the Browning being slightly lighter. I would get the Browning fwiw. Both of these guns are still serviceable.
