Haha. I know the feeling Cave. It’s an addicting hobby! Try to find a local
Bee club or beekeeper to hang with while they’re working with their bees. You’ll learn a lot just by watching.

How safe is it to setup a minimal amount of hives in this size area?

Poochie, you have plenty room. Your neighbors won’t even know you have hives if they don’t see them. Bees disperse very quickly after exiting the hive.

Is it worth turning a small bee operation into a small business to reap any sort of Gov tax breaks?

I’m not sure man. I just do it as a hobby.

Thanks, the only thing I would be worried about would be the kids in the backyard. We have a swing set and they spend a lot of time back there.

I’ve thought about if I were to have one in the backyard, to put it in the northwest corner and put some azalea bushes in front. The bushes acting as a natural barrier to keep kids away while at the same time forcing the bees to elevate their flight path.

Is this the right line of thinking?

Sounds like a good plan to me. Just make sure the hive is turned away from the swing set. The back side of hives have very little bee traffic.

I guess I could always put it in the NE corner and face it due south.

I will definitely wait at least a year though and do some thorough research.

It’s time to hang your swarm traps if you have any.

Is it true that you're not supppose to face the front of a hive near a roadway because they fly straight out and get smacked by cars? I've heard doing this can actually affect bee numbers.

If the hive is close to the road, I suppose it could happen. Bees gain elevation pretty quickly when they leave the hive though.

Found a wild colony in the woods near the house. Putting a trap out there later today. Wish me luck!

Perfect timing man. Just don’t put it right next to the hive. I’d hang it about 100 feet away.

They say that putting a swarm trap along the edge of a tree line increases your chances.
