Agreed AlxTgr

The issues arise when individuals are trying to breed specifically mass producing this gene type. It creates inbreeding and then the health issues

we have a winner.... which usually includes disregarding all healthy breeding aspects.....

I just informed someone that was spending 2k on a choc. puppy - (2k because 4 generations back all chocolates...nothing else) I informed him you ever seen a family 4 generations back all red heads....

but it is

Something being called a recessive gene does not automatically make it a deleterious gene. It just means that it is only expressed when you have two copies of that gene, one from each parent (think blue eyes in humans). Dominant genes mask recessive genes.

Now, it's possible that those health problems come with other genetic material associated with having silver pups due to inbreeding or something.

they are silver because of a recessive gene

recessive genese means more medical issues in long run
no it does not. No more than your kid if your kid has blue or green eyes.

Now, if a breeder ignores hips and eyes to churn out more silvers, then yes silvers could be a problem, but it has zero to do with shade of the coat

I made a thread months ago about silver labs and I'm pretty sure it caused several OB posters to cry

That's like saying my blue eyes sister has an increased risk of health issues over me with brown eyes.

Well....
