I don’t think it is true for the true recessive gene anomaly pups.

The inbreeding would make it def true for puppy factory breeders throwing 4 silver litters a year

100lbs and 60

I don’t expect the females to get large. However off last litter the males did. A couple of the females got over 60

No it is not. You’re clearly ignorant to the breed.

BYW, I have one. I love her, but she isn't exactly right. And I've had some problems with her that can be attributed to genetics. I knew better when I bought her and wouldn't do it again. Granted, some of joint problems could also be attributed to her size, but that is also attributed to breeding for large dogs. If you works for you, then great. Just giving my opinion. She had demadex early, so I spayed her which fixed that problem. Both knees reconstructed by 2yo. I don't think she sees very well. And like I said, somethings just alway been a little off with her. Thought I would have to get rid of her when I had my son because she had a "funny" temperament, but she has been fantastic with him.

If the same dog bred your female the first time and that was your litter 9 and 2. It didn't the second time. A recessive gene isn't going to be that prevalent across any one litter. (maybe one puppy) 3 recessive gene pups pop up in a litter is like 26 Billion to one odds if neither of the parents were part of a live recessive litter. Its just math. Let that sink in. Something got to your female.

Now as far as Silver's. It's a shite mutt dog with lineage back to a kennel that was well known for bredding Wiem's and Lab's. Too coincidental for me. Designer breed that doesn't deserve the association with the Lab breed name at all.

I can promise you nothing got to my female but my male. I had no intention on breeding.

I had her locked up 247 and watched her like a hawk when she was out. When she hit prime heat, I went to the store and my male opened my screened door and then house door to get to her. When I got home they were still tied up
I can show you the video if you’d like doggie porn.

Not to mention, my male wouldn’t let another male in the yard without some vet bills associated.

I've read a lot of these opinions, but I really don't think, through my experience, that it would work that way.

Most silvers I"ve seen look much more chocolate then "weim silver" and all breeds can have diff colors or dilutions that aren't recognized by AKC. Hell they didn't recognize white boxers for years. Its not hard to breed those dilutions or color variations to get a predictable result, hence the genetic health issues you see with them. Its literally how we get every breed and every variation of that breed.

This is absolutely true

Depends on what you mean.

Recessive genes, in general, do not inherently mean more medical issues. Many of the traits you see in every animal and person is recessive and are in no way tied to medical issues.

If you're talking about whatever this specific "silver lab" gene is, then it's possible that it's tied to other medical issues, but I don't know anything about it.

More likely, you're referring to people who are inbreeding dogs to a heavy degree in order to produce homozygous animals which express this "silver" trait. This inbreeding also compounds the odds of producing animals that are homozygous for traits that ARE medically significant. So, these traits aren't necessarily linked to the "silver gene" but would pop up more with this practice.

These are more chocolates with silver tint. Not that Weimar look which is obvious in the face also.

I’d post a pic but I suck at posting pics

Id have to see the pups, Its really just science and math for me. If you have 3 that don't fit the bill, something happened.

I was at the "grand" yesterday.... I didn't see any silver labs... maybe there were some there earlier - not there anymore... saw 5 goldens and 10 yes 10 boykins..... only saw 3 chessies....

The lab has changed dramatically since I got my first one in 1980....

No, it's not even close to being true. That's like saying my blue eyes sister has an increased risk of health issues over me with brown eyes.

we had a bear of a time keeping our male boykin away from our female this past heat cycle.. gonna ship him off somewhere next time - even if we breed them....

both were basket cases in doggie games the week after she cleared her cycle..lesson learned.....
