About 7 years ago we took our daughter (8),our niece and her daughter (5) to WDW in June. HUGE MISTAKE. Hotter than arse and packed slap full of folks. We stayed in the Army resort (Shades of Green) and it was pretty nice. The second afternoon we were there we had gone back to the hotel because the kids were worn out and acting like brats and around 4 o'clock my wife and niece were ready to go back to the parks but the kids were having none of it....they wanted the pool as kids are wont to want. I made a deal with them that I would take them to the pool until 6, the women could go to the park (they went wine drinking at Epcot) and after 6 I would take them fishing. They were STOKED. We played in the pool about an hour, loaded up the truck and snuck into a couple of ponds behind the hotel and at the golf course with a UL spinning rod, 6 lb line and a panther martin and proceeded to catch BIG bream and 12-14 inch LM bass on just about every cast. At least twice someone said "I don't think you can fish here" but we obviously could because we were. Those little girls had more fun that evening than the rest of the time we were there. We did it just about every evening after that and many times an employee would approach us, say something along the lines of "you can't fish here" and then ask "are they biting" and we'd have a 30 minute conversation while those girls caught fish after fish LOL. Sometimes they'd tell us we had to stop but most of the time they would tell us if someone told us to stop fishing to do so LOL. We didn't catch any hawgs but we slayed some BIG bream and caught so many 12-14 inch largemouth it was almost boring. Almost. My daughter is 15 now and our niece is 11 and they both remember us fishing far more fondly than anything we did on that trip.

Do you have to have a guide?
If you have a kid with you and you have "Arkansas'd" fishing holes in your youth you don't. You ain't gonna get by with launching a boat and fishing 12 hours but if you are properly motivated its entirely possible to fish a couple of hours, again with a kid with you, until someone runs you off. There are ponds everywhere. Many of them are hidden and out of site and the only person liable to see you is a maintenance person and they don't care if you are skinny dipping in the damned thing as long as they don't have to do anything. I doubt it'd work for an adult by themselves but I know for a certainty its possible with a kid tagging along.

Unless its just about fishing on Disney property its in the middle of what is arguably the best bass fishing on the planet and there is no end to people with a boat, a 6 pack license and a shiner tank who fish everyday and catch so many 5-6 pound LMs it becomes boring for them. It ain't hard to buy a bucket of shiners and sit on a bank on just about every body of water in the area and catch a few on your own. I am certain it'd be fun to do it on Disney property and have someone else do all the work but fishing in the area is fantastic and easy to access outside of Disney.

Probably a little too far North for peacock.
It was at least 7 years ago. Too far north for any of the transplants then. I suspect there are plenty of Tilapia and Oscars and Cichlids now though...wouldn't bet against a peacock but they may not have made it that far yet....

I never even considered you could fish at disney. My wife has been begging to take the kids, but disney isn't my thing. I'd rather take my boys on hunting, fishing, or skiing. Well she finally talked me into it so we are going this year. I'm pumped now we can go bass fishing too now.

My advice, stick to November through to end of February if you can make that work.
It's a shite load of walking and it's hot as hell from April on.
If you like to drink and eat, Epcot is awesome. Hollywood Studios has great restaurants and bars(Walk into the 50s diner bar and grab you and your wife a drink and a virgin drink for the kids), too.

Thanks for the advice! We are going in January so the weather should be great. I asked my wife if she knew about the fishing, and she already had a guided trip set up for me and the boys as a surprise.

Not sure when it ended, but you used to be able to rent pontoons and cruise/fish the lake. They also used to rent rods. I caught a few across from contemporary circa ‘95. That’s back when they also had the little mini speed boats, sprites I believe.

We fished the lake by the Caribbean Beach Resort.
We were there maybe 3 mins and my son caught one about 2.5 lbs. My 7 year caught one immediately after about 2 lbs. In all we caught 20-25 in 2 hours. My wife caught this biggest one, it was about 4.5 lbs. Average size was about 2.5 pounds.
The Caribbean Beach Resort Lake is the smallest lake so I would say if you fish that one, 2 hours is all you need.
Definitely recommended at least once.

Glad y’all had a good experience. Nothing like pulling up in a spot and bending a pole!
Also, nothing like striking out on a guided trip?????.
Congrats on a great trip.

My dad took us when I was little. My brother with Asperger’s caught the most fish laying on his face dragging a Carolina rigged French fry behind the boat.
