Bay side or gulf side?

We would always go gulf side. There is a natural peninsula that has formed where the public beach/pier is. It goes out what seems to be forever. You can walk out on that beach on the left side facing the golf course and it is very shallow and you can walk way out.

Pelican Island use to be a mile or 2 from Dauphin Island. The DI fishing pier is right there. Fished it a few times. Now it's high and dry. The hurricanes closed it.

It's right at the public beach.

The golf course is a maybe couple of miles down from the public beach. Before you could park at the golf course and walk to the beach, not sure they will let you now. If not just go to the public beach parking and walk down a ways.

Lots of good info here. ClassicGold and I are heading down that way for memorial day in the yaks. Any tips on where to launch a kayak to fish the golf course? We will be in pedal yaks so range is a little more extended than paddling.

ETA: besides the public beach that would require us to drag them half a mile over sand

There is neighborhood just to the east of the golf course, but not sure about access any more.

You could just go to the public beach. You would not have to drag your kayaks that far for the water. The water is just to the east of the pier.

Awesome. I have a C-tug cart with sand wheels but its still a pita to move a 120# kayak. Think we may spend a day by the golf course then maybe another one around the CCA reefs. Anyone better than the other on a certain tide?

The golf course should be on fire right now.

Yeah really two get options. You can camp on inside kinda by cca1 and cca2 kinda by the cut or outside a few 1000 yards from the launch at billy goat hole.

That’s what we are hoping. Seems to be the time of year for the big sows to be out and about down there.

As far as bait goes, I probably won’t be using live bait. I’m assuming topwater plugs, mirrodines, and plastics on a jig head will do fine.

Which peninsula by the golf course do you wade for specs? The eastern peninsula and fish toward the gulf or the western peninsula and fish toward the course?

The public parking is right by the pier. You’ll put in there and fish your way towards the golf course.

Fish around CCA 1 and 2 in the surf on the west end around cut. If you can find live shrimp sure. If not use mirrorlure 51-MR in Texas chicken pattern. Early in am and fish the tides.

On West end you already have good advice, but let me add this, the shoals or to your right on the big bridge that you go over to DI can be deadly this time of year, you can wade it but a lot easier with a kayak or something. Again first light, same bait but also the glass minnows and mirrordines. Plastics will always work too just find right color. Live shrimp if you can find.

The pier lights will be great as soon as it heats up but you will need a boat or kayak. Green lights are best

My buddies and I use to wade fish the hell out of the golf course back in college.

We actually never went down any of the peninsulas. Too many sharks as you get closer to the gulf. We would walk down the golf course board walk and then walk about 300 yards east, then wade out.

Pink super spooks in the morning for top water and then would switch to opening night lil jons and sand eels. 1/4 ounce jig heads. Try working around the crab traps and sand bar drop offs.

I’m at DI now. Caught a bunch of whitings, catfish, and a few 12” trout. Gotta be 15” min......

Fun for the 9yr old catching constant fish but no keepers.

Caught a nice 6lb trout 10 yrs ago in the area bbvdd showed.
