many times. My brother lives on the island. Fishing is hit or miss. You wanting to fish out of a boat, or surf fish?

Surf fished there, but caught nothing but sharks and rays. Did see some specks caught on live shrimp on the east side by the marina out of a few boats.

best places to surf fish are behind the golf course, and the west end. They have construction going on at the west end because of the hurricane. Not sure if you can access the beach.

Ive fished there a few times cause for some reason my friends like going there, and think pulling a boat there is novel or some bs.

After seeing our LA plates, even the locals asked "yall came here to fish?"

I suggest you bring cards, dice and strong drink.

I gained an appreciation for just how good the fishing is in places like Dularge, Grand Isle and Bay St. Louis by spending my summers surf fishing on Dauphin Island. Never caught numbers but was able to catch the occasional redfish, flounder and speck. Most of the fish I caught were nice fish but they were few and far between.

Looking for the raptor migration may work out better than fishing.

If you have a boat fish behind the golf course and under the bridge. Fish live shirimp about 10-12' under a slip cork in the channel under the bridge (right on the ledges). DI is great. Family friends have had a place there my whole life. This pic is old but there’s some hammer trout on that island around May and June.

Well it looks like I'll be doing more relaxing than fishing from the sound of things.

get you a bubble rig. If the hardtails and spanish mackeral are running, you'll have a blast. You fill the bubble half full of water, and just jerk it every now and again.

That'll be in the surf.

You should be able to catch some whiting in the surf on dead shrimp. Should be too early for pompano.

On the rock jetties on the east end (by the fort) you should be able to catch some sheep head.

surf. go beyond the first sand bar. I hooked a hardtail and when I reeled it near, there was a 2 foot shark after it. Had to change my draws.

People dont think there are fish there? Dauphin Island has incredible fishing if you have a boat - grew up fishing around there. My uncle used to guide and the boat would catch 100+ trout around the area regularly once you're out of the winter pattern. Like most places, you just have to know the area.

For this trip without the boat, work topwater by the golf course and the north side of Sand Island. There will be a million flounder in there too. You can also go out by Fort Gaines and get plenty of action with shrimp, although many of the fish will be quite toothy.

Without a boat hit the bayside with a top water early in the am. Picked up a few last year, boat has a lot more options, they do t have numbers but trout are definitely bigger.

If you can find some of the hard bottom spots around the island and use artificial you can do really well
