Far as hell. 40 miles is river water. I'd guess the rip is 65+

Wish I could help. I just know that 40 miles looks like shite.

If you plan on going tuna fishing in the canyon (I'd suggest you do) then Fourchon will work.

Also, you can still catch snapper in that muddy water.

I hear all the Hoo's are out west right now

Well i am going for big snapper but i want some mahi and cobia more than the snapper so i am really just looking for the rip, but i am not heading 65 miles just for some mahi in a 22ft boat.

We're going out tomorrow, too. Hitting the rigs early AM to limit on red snapper and catch some mangroves before hitting the canyon for tuna.

Caught 40 red snapper, kept 8 and ate 2 on the boat. A mix of mangrove and lane snapper as well with a few triggerfish tossed in.

We went to wd 117 today. Never came close to the rip. Caught 20 something red snapper . 8 mangroves. A cobia. And a strawberry grouper. Probably got broke off over 20 times. We were fishing really light tackle. Missed a few grouper cobia and big snapper.
