It maybe a very expensive endeavor for you...

We're going to have to trucks, so I think we're going to float all day. This is my first time doing anything like this so I'm pretty excited
For your first time the Norfork spur would be perfect to get your feet wet, so to speak. Put in by the hatchery below the dam and float down to where it runs into the White River by Rose's Trout Dock. I want to say that's about a 5 mile trip.
Put in at "A" and float to where it intersects the bigger river which is the White River...

my roommate guides in the summer so I'm sure he somewhat knows what's up.
I just saw this part... if someone has done it before you'll catch fish.

He was tying whooly boogers last night
Olive wooly boogers and sow bugs are the two best flys up there. Fact.

I have, but never on purpose.

I've had better luck with copper johns than I have sow bugs. Probably because I use copper johns a lot more however.

Figured I'd bump this thread instead of starting a new one. Heading to Yellowstone in a week and I'll be fly fishing for the second time in my life. The first time was guided and in Canada so I didn't have to tie any flies or know which ones to use or pole to get or anything.
How important really is the rod/reel setup? I found a setup at Walmart that was on clearance for $18 and I don't see why it wouldn't work just like a more expensive rod. Found a good deal on waders at Dick's so I can spend a little more on a rod/reel, but I don't want to if there isn't the need.
And I don't see myself doing a ton of fly fishing after this.

Be aware that many states have outlawed felt soled boots as an invasive freshwater mussel can attach itself to boots and be carried to other waterways via the boots.

If I were to buy my first rod to be used as an all around rod, should I buy it on the heavier end of the species that I will likely be targeting?
