Thinking about getting into this as a hobby. Cool coins to be found. Lots of civil war sites.

Started with a Tesoro silver Umax, went to a garret at pro, did not like the UI and couldn't find a mode the thing didn't sound like a chicken about to get it's head cut off. Moved back to Tesoro with a Tejon, it was very deep but on that one the discrimination was not too accurate. I then found an older Tesoro Eldorado Umax and that thing is impressive, not the deepest but I've been able to ground balance everywhere I've been and the discrimination is spot on. Then for funsies got a Nokta simplex off of Amazon. it's everything the Garret was not. simple modes, simple notch feature and very deep, this would have been a 1k$ detector a few years back. It's my vacation detector because losing the Eldorado would hurt. FYI, Tesoro is out of business but in the day they made top notch machines. Do get a garret pinpointer or something similar. When I started I used a feed sack and a shovel to locate the goods. This gets recovery down to no time or effort at all.

Must be coincidence, but I lost my wedding ring today fishing in back yard. Was just looking at one on Amazon. Does anyone know of a metal detection service locally?

Get whatever the dude on Oak Island uses.

Seriously, I've never tried but I do agree, looks like a cool hobby for killing some time and maybe find a few cool things now and then.

Got friend that does it and absolutely queer about it, hence my last post. But he finds some really cool pieces. He actually bought a piece of property between port Hudson and St Francisville that he works over. I’d love to do it, but the stuff that I want to find around here are all leased up.
