My suggestion, buy a rimfire scope that has the parallax set at 50 yds. Nearly all scopes designed for centerfires have the parallax set at 100 yds.

Good point. I forgot to say that the Leupold 2x7 I chose is the "rimfire" version. The parallax is set at 60 yards. I don't know why they decided on 60 yards instead of 50, which is more common for rimfire scopes, but they did. That setup will drive tacks at 50 yards. For that matter, it will drive tacks at 100 yards also, as long as there's no wind. The .17's get blown around on a 100 yard target at the range pretty easy. Not a problem in the woods. If the wind is blowing that hard in the woods, you're probably not doing much squirrel hunting anyway, or you should be carrying a shotgun instead of a rimfire.

Yeah, the two he mentioned were both rimfire. Nikon and Leopold. He wasn't sure. I will find out Friday morning.

Took mine out to the dove field Saturday to shoot a bit. Only scope they had was a Nikon Rimfire in 4-12. I didn't want to wait for a 2x7.
Only had to move the scope setting once to get squirrel head accurate after bore sighting. Had 2/3 failures. Kinda disappointed in that. Maybe needs break in? Cannot wait for squirrel season.

What kind of ammo were you using? If you continue to have problems, change ammo (or at least a different lot of that ammo).
Did you clean the chamber before shooting?
A friend of mine has a Savage bolt 17 HMR that misfires frequesntly due to headspace issues w/ the chamber. It'll only shoot one type of ammo w/o misfires. le
Wouldn't hurt to spray some "Gun Scrubber" in the action just in case there's some oil or powder hindering the action.
I'll bet you have an enjoyable squirrel season this year.

Gotcha. May sound kinda silly, but the the mag of my Savage bolt action 17M2 is kinda sensitive so that I have to seat it firmly. Yours will prob improve as you break it in...that's the fun part anyway! If not, you may need to try a different shaped bullet.
