quote:Well, given the rifle rounds I've seen, they are stocking stuff commonly used for hunting.
What do they think most of the guns and ammo is being bought for? I am buying it for defensive purposes not offensive.
No handgun ammo (not sure if they still have 22lr), no "assault rifle" calibers.

Walmart and Sam’s Club CEO Doug McMillan recently announced the company’s new policies:
? “After selling through our current inventory commitments, we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large-capacity clips on military-style weapons”
? “We will sell through and discontinue handgun ammunition”
? “We will discontinue handgun sales in Alaska, marking our complete exit from handguns”

Not criticizing, I am jealous.
“1k of premium SD ammo“
But, how many home invaders do you plan on shooting?

For me it is more about stock piling it if shite hits the fan. If it does, ammo is going to be pretty valuable. I like having plenty on tap for piece of mind. It is a lot easier to get it now vs waiting and trying to get it if something extreme happens.

How much more out of stock can everything get?

Side note: was reading through a "which is better gun for SHTF, AK or AR?" article online. Article was 5 yrs old, which in my experience (and age) isn't that long ago. I have a lot of ammo older than that
Anyway, AR gets points for being lighter, more accessories (who cares), being more inherently accurate with good ammo/optics.
AK gets points for running more reliably with negligent cleaning, for having harder-hitting ammo, for ammo being cheaper, and for being the cheaper actual rifle.
Which used to be my general understanding, AK's cost less than AR's did.
Fast-forward to now: I can't find an AK under $700, even looking at old (up to 1 yr) threads. I was able to find an AR 15 for $475 in June, in the midst of the panic buying. Looking at slightly older web entries, I could have picked one up for as low as $400 with a little browsing, the end of last year, if I was shopping ARs instead of 4k TVs.
Ammo hasn't changed that much; I helped my brother get an M&P Sport II and a case of ammo a few elections back, got a 1k case of Wolf Gold for right at $300 to go with it.
After ordering my AR in June, I was able to get a case of IMI for $369.
That's not a big shift over about a decade, as I think the IMI probably cost a bit more than the Wolf Gold did then.
Similarly, I've got a couple SKS's and have bought ammo over the years, in July I got a case of Tula 7.62x39 for $210. That's right around what it's been going for, for going on a decade or more, give or take.
When did the AR become the cheaper rifle?

sign up for an account there, and watch your emails as we approach the next holiday.
Father's Day- Tula 9mm case for $154.
4th of July- Tula 223 for $250, 7.62 for $210.
They also ran that deal on 223 a couple other times, so I have $500 worth of Tula 223 .
What's the next holiday coming?

It cant
Two and a half months ago I was buying 139 dollar 1000case shipped steel 9mm and 183 dollar 500case shipped .308 and it was already slightly more expensive than 9 months ago on TargetSportsUSA.
They have had nothing at all in stock for more than a month. Its more than doubled or even tripled that price if you are lucky enough that you can hop on it at the right time.
Its not as much fun to blow through trash plinking ammo anymore.
fricking blows hard dipping into old stores.
