Well look at a ford ranger. If you want gas mileage you will not be happy with any full size truck. Small truck with a manual transmission beats all for fuel mileage.

Ford doesn't make the ranger anymore

What??????
shite thats what i seriously wanted to get when i get out out college. My buddy had an 04ish one with a v6 that i liked alot.
Much more realistic and practical than my diesel fantasy

Still enjoy my old 98 single cab stick 75000 miles in ranger
If they didn't cost so much they would sell a little better. You can buy a low range full size pick up for the same as a beefed up small truck.

Nah I've had a small truck with a 5 speed in my hs days, definitely never again. My point was since I'm not doing major towing/mudding/etc. it is wise to get the engine that would be the balance between performance and practicality. IMO the MPG between the 3.5 and 5.0 is negligible. I just like the ecoboost, not sure of it's worth the extra $ and chance.

I wasnt aware they were more expensive than other small trucks.
I might go for a colarado with the 5.3 or a 2 wheel drive 1500 with a small v8. Maybe i'll be able to find a nice used ranger with low miles. I wont be buying anything brand new an it'll be another year before i buy something.

Well I know for me I would rather spend the money for a full size truck then spend a big amount of money for a small truck. I think more people would buy rangers/ colorados/ etc if they were priced further down compared to low end full size trucks. I could be different than others though

When I was in hs Rangers were hugely popular but it seems everyone now it getting huge trucks.

don't know if it's already been posted, but the mileage difference of the eco and the 5.0 is 1 MPG
not that much difference to make up for the price IMO

Nor the fact that the 5.0 has been around much longer than the ecoboost. The eco still has a few years to go before it can be considered a proven design.

You keep saying that, but other than it being NA, it's not really very simple or has it been around long.
I think it first appeared in 2010 or so. It's a very complicated engine, even though you're thinking of it as a typical v8 truck engine
Hell, it's got 4 valve dohc
The 6.2 is probably the most basic engine in the ford lineup technology wise

Introduced in the exact same model year.
If I'm dropping $40K on a new truck, I'm getting the good engine - the one that hauls arse and gets good MPG. I've driven both: the 5.0 feels negligibly better than my old 5.4 (which only has 300 HP); the EB makes the truck feel 1000 lbs lighter. Even if the mileage is the same when you drive like a banshee, the drive-ability and the ease of power in the EB makes it well worth the $1000 entry price.

Don't sell the 5.0 short, it's way better than this 5.4 in my truck
But it's not the same 5.0 that your uncle Rico had in his stang back in the day
Completely different engine

Reason I was asking about the price I sell Ford, just seeing if I could pass a better deal to the OB.

But seriously, these are the things I won't go home without:
1. Ecoboost
2. Navigation
3. Leather seats
anything I'm missing, besides 4wd?
I am not reading the whole thread, but I will add this:
1. Ecoboost meh
2. Who pays for a navigation system in their truck? Do you own a droid or a iphone? Why pay a couple of grand for something nailed down to your truck when you have something that will do the same thing for free?
3. Leather seats - pay for the cooled seats. Trust me.
As for the 4WD, you may never miss it driving (I doubt this, everyone who owns a truck will need it at least once), but you will miss it when you go to sell your truck. You will more than make your money back on resale value.
