Advice needed with Rem 700 bolt sticking.

When you say it's sticking, do you mean you can't lift the bolt? or you can't pull the bolt to the rear?

Or both?

My grandson’s .243 bolt would not close all the way after firing a round. I made sure it was very clean but it still wouldn’t completely close. A gunsmith found that a small brass ring from the neck of the round broke off and stuck in the barrel. He got it out but it wasn’t easy. It works fine now.

I checked all the brass and primers from multiple manufacturers on my last trip to the range and there were no visible pressure issue signs. As far as the throat goes, I’ve got a bore scope otw so I can see it better. I don’t really use a lot of solvents in my barrels so it could have some carbon buildup

If you have any pieces of brass that were stuck, were there any shiny spots on the brass? When it finally came out were there marks on the head of the brass?

You said that the rifle is only 10yrs old? Does the serial number start with an R?

I would bet anything that you are starting to see issues with the primary extraction.



See the angle on the end of the bolt handle where it meets the receiver? See that gap? It's about 1/16".
They should meet as the bolt is being lifted. That angle starts the primary extraction. On Remington's made in the last 20yrs, the engineers fricked it up and they never bothered to fix it.

I'd bet money that is what you are seeing with yours.
