Hey guys,
I want to get a muzzle suppressor. Haven't settled on brand and such at this time, but will start out w/ using it on a 22 LR. My main question at this time is deciding the best way to go about getting a muzzle suppressor, specifically by setting up a gun trust or not.

From what I've read so far, the gun trust has...
pros: avoids photos, fingerprints and signature of local law enforcement agency.
cons: legal expenses to set it up.
potential problems finding a local lawyer who's familiar w/ a gun trust.

I'm still fuzzy on other aspects of the two approaches:
Is a gun trust the only way to go if you want to allow someone other than you to shoot the suppressed gun?
One article I read mentioned that after setting up a gun trust, subsequent purchases would need to bought by the gun trust. I don't understand that.

For those of you have have used either route, what do advise?

Where are you located? I have a lawyer in NOLA that set up my trust and I am dealing with Landrys Guns in Morgonza and Bowies in BR for my suppressors. I recommend all three for your needs.

I've aske this before but I'll ask it again for some new responses.

If I live in LA but mostly hunt and camp in MS, how much hassle is it to take the suppressor with me? Do I have to notify them each time I take it?

A suppressor is zero hassle. You do not have to notify anybody. A SBR or SBS is a different story though.

Bayoushooter.com has a pretty good class 3 section.

I may look into it then. I've thought about getting one but figured it would be a paperwork hassle between the 2 states.

Has anybody dealt with Precision on handling a suppressor?

I have not but I know most places are currently out of stock. It will take months for more to come in with all the paperwork necessary. I know my buddy has been waiting over 6 months for his to even arrive at Jims so that they can start the process. Bowies should get mine in next week.

So you have to have the suppressor in hand before the paperwork is even started ?

No need to be jealous. They can be had for a decent price and limited paperwork. My trust set me back $325 and is a one time cost. Some .22 suppressors are very cheap (around $200) and then the $200 tax stamp. So for your first go around its up there but they allow lots of fun. The one I am getting will be used on many different guns.

The store has to have it in their possession before they will start the paperwork. It used to be that they could call the distributor and get the serial number and start the paperwork while they were waiting but not anymore. Well, nobody that I have talked to will do it this way anymore.

As a college kid, I definitely need to be jealous

All these AR threads about people buying ARs at the drop of a hat make me

I can't buy a case of beer without counting pennies first

There were several in the case last time I went to Hebert's FWIW. Probably 1-1.5 weeks since last time I was in there.

ETA: I'd like to get one for a .22 for shits and giggles but I don't want my name on any federal forms. I think that's the first people they go to when/if they start banning/confiscating.

I have no idea on class 3 dealers in your area but you can still use the NOLA lawyer to write your trust. I know of a person in BR that charges 500 and one in Laffy that charges 600. NOLA charges $325 and everything can be done by email and mail.
