I have heard of golden retrievers.

I have heard of Labradors.

I have also heard people say Labrador retriever. Is that the same as a Labrador or is it some type of mix between a golden retriever and a Labrador?

Sorry for such a general question; I googled and searched here.

TIA

Both are retrievers. It's a style of dog.

Kind of like a hound dog can be a catahoula, blue tick, beagle, etc...

Damn NoDust, I was going to say the same thing!

"Collar? or no collar?"

As for your question......
when someone says 'retriever', they usually are referring to the longer haired "golden" retriever.
If someone has a Labrador Retriever, they usually say "lab". A lab will go yellow, black or chocolate. A 'retriever' is golden only.

Some of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen were a mix between a golden and a yellow lab.

Did I clear or muddy the waters for you??

A lab is a retriever, no doubt. But if someone tells me they have a retriever, I instantly think they have a golden retriever.

Labs are better fwiw.

Yeah, but nobody who owns a German Shepard, water spaniel or a Poodle refers to their dog as a 'retriever.'

True, but I was just putting that out there. Lab is just a shortened form of Labrador retriever. I usually think of a lab first when I hear retriever. But my dad went to vet school so he'd refer to them that way sometimes.

A Labrador is a Labrador Retriever. A Golden is a Golden Retriever. There are all kinds of mixes but none are recognized by any dog organization. People who breed Labradoodles and the like should be dragged out and shot.

Poodles (standard) were actually bred as hunting dogs. Labradoodles can be excellent hunting dogs. And they don't shed. Not nearly as pretty as a good looking lab or golden though.

No offense but after running enough hunt tests, I would like you to show me a labradoodle that hunts well. Granted they can't compete at an official hunt test, but I have seen about 20 in training and none of them would be hunting dogs I would own.

I have a couple freinds that own some and they are GREAT pets, but not hunters.

I am not sure how I would actually "show" you one, but I have seen them in action, both over pheasants, and ducks. I'd hunt with them any day.

So you've seen 20 labradoodles in training to be hunting dogs?

You usually see labs, a few goldens or chessies at hunt tests. Every once in a while an Irish Water Spaniel or something like that. The most off the wall breed I ever saw was a Wire Haired Griffon.

Half the people I went to HS with referred to all soft drinks as "cole drank" (cold drink).
