A poster that I know was at visiting family in Alabama for the holidays and they were fostering a GSP. I sent him a text, that dog might be available.

Hijack but what would be a good option for someone wanting a dog for woodcock/quail hunting but also good inside dog that isnt extremely high energy?

ok, any negatives on boykins or drathaars (sp?)

The boykin isn't going to point, it will just flush the DD will point. The DD will cover more ground than the boykin but less than the britt or shorthair. The longer hair on the britt is more grooming.
If you are in South Louisiana and want to see shorthairs work, and possibly a britt you can make a hunt with my after woodcock season opens in a couple of weeks.

He needs a female bloodhound. Mine is great with my kids and has found 3 deer so far.

I've got a Draht which is a GWP with proven genetics from hunting to coat and temperment. He's cool as shite and pretty versatile.

boykins will stay close enough for shots on flushes... but pointers will cover more ground and find more birds(by pointers I mean GSP and EP....)
boykins better fetchers than DD and Brittanys
I looked hard at DDs/wirehairs over the years.... one thing kept steering me away....

well....??
bout half the ones I ran into here were the same way. It's probably a training or socialization issue - but it built a perception for me.
the guy in NO that had a couple his were never like that though.

Fair enough. I've been around half a dozen or so DDs in the BR area and they're all really sweet and well mannered. Mine knows that I'll frick him up if he gets out of hand, especially with other dogs.

Unless you have been around them
Riley is a GSP, and she has lots of drive and energy but that shouldn't take them off the list as a great family companion. Our backyard is fenced and has never been an issue, we also let her run outside the fence which she has been trained to do. We crate trained her early on, but now she stays in the house outside her crate during the day when we are working without issue, or I will take her to doggy daycare to get her out of the house for the day She loves other dogs, and people.
We were worried at first about the drive and energy associated with this breed, but she was feom the start a companion dog and we havent had any issues.
I will agree if you want a lazy dog or one that doesn't require much effort a GSP is the wrong breed but if you are an outdoors family with energetic or soon to be energetic kids, and have room to run and play they are great family companions.

I know someone giving a young GSP away. Friend of a friend. Guy is a college student who bought a dog but doesn't have time / ability to take care of it. Let me know if interested. I have pictures on my phone.
