Ground pile tarps

Yeah we use anywhere from 12mil coated polyethylene up to 24 mil. If some places have carry over or to much corn/wheat/grain coming in, and their bins are full, then they go to the ground. If you do that you need a waterproof cover. We make anywhere from 200' dia all the way up to a 450' dia. Biggest bunker, which is just a rectangle we've made was 556' wide.

I've always admired the farmers of America and the amount of hard work they do to put food on our tables. From what I've seen and read, it's such a gamble from year to year whether you go broke, make money or just break even between weather, pests, price fluctuations, etc.

It's definitely not a job for the faint of heart-----or lazy SOB's.

I see you said you may still average mid 70's, and not knowing "farmspeak" do I correctly assume that is mid 70 bushels per acre??? If not, how far off base am I.

Oh, and thanks for your hard work.

What kind of prices do y’all get in that country?

Last wheat we sold was $6 bu picked up. And we just finished selling our corn from last year and it was also $6 picked up. That corn price was higher than normal because the mills are having trouble getting barges down the river so they are running out of corn down our way so they are paying a good premium. We are very lucky to be located so close to the river and to a lot of chicken production areas. Not having high shipping costs is a big benefit to our area.
I could see wheat prices rising a good bit going into the fall to just try to capture some acres. Lot of guys are getting out of wheat completely because the price has been so low. They would rather just do a straight cotton corn rotation.

I hope so, a lot of producers over here jumping out of wheat too. Figure a $5 per bu net average on 45 bu wheat and that’s only $225 an acre. Either right at, or a bit below breakeven for costs over here so you can see why guys over here don’t want to plant it.

Old crop corn is running around 5.20-5.40 picked up right now so y’all are getting better prices on that too. New crop is right around $5 picked up at the bin in the fall for over here. Not bad and higher than they’ve seen the last 4-5 years.

And the Italians over here call it the triple C. Corn, cotton, and cows. That’s all they want to mess with, no milo, no wheat, and definitely no soybeans.

Around the Brazos river in several spots there are. They were some of the first people to settle around it and realize it’s potential.

Yep, there’s a few pockets along the Brazos that have similar land and a surplus of Italians like the MS Delta... Just a lot less culcha and a lot more money.

Damn. Sounds like heaven to me. If only I could pick up and move the family farm.

I went to the ground before harvest to make space for new crop. My tarp tore on us so I am looking to get a new one.
