How did you guys teach them not to be so mouthy? I just got a rescue that seems to be a hound, possibly pointer mix, and he loves to give love bites while we are wrestling. He's good with other dogs because he's been around other dogs in his foster homes, so him mouthing them while playing isn't worrisome, but don't want him constantly trying to get people's hands/fingers in his mouth.

6 or 8 weeks is when we've always gotten our golden retrievers.. as long as they continue eating when you get them I would imagine everything will be fine

Yep, when he does it, pop him on the snout and give him a stern 'NO'

While Wolters has some useful info, it is badly outdated - particularly the 49 day rule. Many, certainly not all breeders today let pups go from 7 to 9 weeks.

this is pretty much spot on from my experience as well.

Got my GR puppy at 7 weeks. She was a little mouthy for the first few weeks but we would pop her nose and sternly say "no". She hasn't even playfully mouthed anybody or any dog since and she's 2. When giving her a treat or toy shes extra careful to bit down really soft and makes sure her teeth doesn't touch your skin. She the sweetest dog ever and a terrible guard dog. Way too friendly.
