Primary Arms has a 16" 458 SOCOM Barrel and BCG for $180. Why the hell not? I got a couple of extra unused uppers laying around. Got absolutely no need for the caliber except to make big fireballs at the range and make that steel really ring. Waste of money or a cheap fun project?

If they are standard uppers u may need to flare/widen the ejection port. Its a finicky caliber so make sure you get quality parts. The .458 boards on FB have some knowledgeable people.

ETA: they usually shite on Radical but some say they work fine. Pretty sure u can get a complete radical upper for $400ish bucks.

Friend of mine bought a complete 458 from radical and kept it for a few years as a hog gun. Never had any issues with it.

Besides "cuz I can" what is the allure of .458 SOCOM? I'm all about having more guns, but ?? Hogs?

The 458 SOCOM was designed to fit the AR15 platform, and is capable of pushing a 300 grain bullet to 1950 fps, generating over 2500 foot pounds of muzzle energy, and 25 foot pounds of recoil. This is more recoil than a 30-06 shooting a 180 grain bullets at 2800 fps.

When Southern Ballistic Research puts his 350gr FMJ's on sale you can get them for around $1.50 a pop. I usually buy 200 rounds to go blast with my buddies.

Is it a good Grizzly Bear round? Cause I don't think I have anything to deal with Grizzlies if a Grizzly outbreak happens here in Alabama. Might be a good excuse to build one.

Admittedly I am making fun of some of the .458 people but also admittedly I do owm one lol. Hardly ever gets shot because of the cost of ammo but it is actually a pretty cool round. The bullet weight range is really amazing. Once you find the combo of a rifle that will reliably chamber a round that it likes from a mag that it likes it can really do some damage haha. It is a hammer.
