Anyone on the board have any experience with this engine. my 06 v8 only makes 280 hp so not a drastic difference from the 4.0

I’ve got a 4.0 in my tacoma but I’m not sure I’d want it in a full size

there's an ~1200 lbs weight difference between and older model and a current model.

Just FYI.

Dat torque though. Over 60 additional lbft. That's a big difference.

I'm also seeing that the 4.6 is rated at 310hp, not 280.

I have the 5.7 v8 and wouldn't want any less power.

God that motor sucks.

Toyota makes a damned fine V8. But they should have just bought the 4.0L from Nissan.

Their own attempt was a piss poor replacement for the 3.4.

How so? What are your metrics for saying it sucks?

My 4Runner 4.0L has 240K mi and has had nothing but routine maintenance. The 3.4L was anemic and had head gasket issues.

They like to burn oil. If yours doesn't, count yourself lucky.

On paper, the Toyota 4.0 has 10ish more hp and dead even on the torque figure. In the real world, it doesn't translate. The nissan 4.0 comes on strong on the low end and pulls cleanly to redline.

On paper, they tow maybe 500lbs different... But the nissan motor is better at moving overloaded weights or towing up a gradient.

If they would have collaborated, it could have been a thing of beauty.

I agree. I had a 1999 F150 with the 4.2L V6 and it was a slug. And that’s really not a small engine.

Same here. It’s certainly not a weak engine but it isn’t winning races against Ford or Ram.

The resale on the V6 will be harder and lower FYI, most of the time if you see a great deal on a Tundra it’s the lower power motors.

NVM - my bad. Rando was right. I had the 3.4L - I was only shopping for those trucks with the 4.0L. I guess, much like my mother in law, I read things and sometimes think they happened to me.

Wait - you're right, I had the 3.4L.

My bad.
