Speaking only from a ballistics standpoint, it's 35 Whelen and no contest. The 35 Whelen (named after Col. Townsend Whelen, famous for his quote, "Only accurate guns are interesting") is a 30-06 case w/ a 35 caliber bullet in it. From a ballistics standpoint, none of the other "primitive" weapons can hold a candle to it. Yeah, it's gonna have significant recoil, but any of these guns will. I'd be hard pressed to differentiate between them based on the recoil.

There are no lever actions chambered in 35 Whelen.

beHop must've meant 35 Whelen in Hornady's new Superformance load, using a 35 caliber Flex-Tip bullet, like what Hornady uses in their Leverrevolution loads. There is no 35 Whelen Leverrevolution load.
35 Whelen Superformance load is VERY hot w/ a claimed muzzle velocity of 2900 fps and 200 grain bullet.
