I’m currently setting up a 6.5 Grendel however we’re getting lots of pics of hogs so I’m going to take the 300 BLK for a spin vs the piggies.

Just got a suppressor, and am trying to determine if I should hunt them with subs or supers. The shots will be around 40-50 yards and likely never over 75 yards unless trying to hit them on the run.

Love the idea of the super quiet shot of the subs, but last thing I want do is not drop these beasts.

Thoughts? Trail cam of what I’m up against:

Either will kill them at that range. Supers will have a better chance at dropping them. Headshots with subs will drop them for sure.

Discrete Ballistics or Leigh Defense subs are awesome at that range. They are designed to expand at lower speeds.

And super quiet suppressed.

I would imagine. I’ve only ordered it from their site.

Agree. Never shot them, but videos of discreet ballistics are impressive.

Youtube 194 gr Lehigh
This is the one I plan on trying. I will say this, whether shooting 50 BMG or 22lr Im shooting a pig between the ear and the front shoulder. With my 6.5 they lock up like they were turned to stone when I put a Hornady 123gn SST in the neck.

Supersonic 110gr barnes Black tips will work well. They're costly tho. Recently i bought 500rds of Fiocci 125gr sst to test out. I think it will work out of my 16” barrel and is half the price of barnes. Ive never messed w/ the subsonics on pigs. I’m just afraid of wasting my time and having one runoff on me.

I’ve had lots of issues with consistency of ballistics of subsonic...can’t seem to get a good grouping and some feeding issues too. I’ve found that the subs arent so quiet that the pigs cant hear it and the supers arent too loud to prevent you from hearing the round hit the pig. I’d go supers and aim for the earhole

I found that if you get a good broadside shot and knock out both shoulders it will also take out the heart/lungs and they will be DRT. It’s important to wait for broadside shot because if you hit only one shoulder, even if you shoot lungs or heart, they’re going to run sometimes 50 or more yards on three legs and no heart even.

At that range I’d go with subs. I have a Ruger Ranch setup with night vision, no suppressor, it’s a bolt action, and still have been able to take 4 in one sitting. Used it late afternoon a few times and killed a couple deer with the subs too.... don’t stretch it much past 100 yards with the subs though...

Underwood maximum expansion is the deadliest sub I’ve used. The Hornadys do good too, but that Underwood spreads way out and really makes a hole, pass through or not.
