I shoot them with PMC 556 62 grain green tips. Drops them in their tracks.

Lone star boars has a video where they used the 300bo and I think his takeaway was not to use that again. Switched to 6.8 (apr performance barrels) in 2010 and have never looked back. Still working through my wad of 110 pro hunters. With the .223 I would get 1 or two decent shots but then with the sounder spreading out, I'd go center of mass and the results dropped off bad. The 6.8 will put them down where i can come back and end the suffering if needed once the immediate fun is over.

Definitely 223 for shooting and killing animals. Hogs don’t have body armor or sheet metal or glass to protect them generally so you don’t need green tips to penetrate. Both green tips and FMJ will go right through a hog and not expand. You at least want a soft point bullet, or even better a hollow point or polymer tipped hollow point if you want to inflict maximum wound channels for the fastest ethical kills. 1-8 twist should be good for 60-something grain bullets. 223 for hunting or bad guys in our own country, 5.56 for fighting wars conforming to Geneva convention.

Use the 5.56

Better accuracy
Better velocity
Less drop when sighting in for zero to target

So dumb lol. I've killed plenty of them with 300bo. With a good bullet, you will be smacking them down. Todd has killed more pigs than I ever will but he's wrong on this. Like everything, shot placement and bullet selection are king.

Last hog shot was a 350 pounder. Used a Browning a-bolt in 223 to take down at 180 yards. neck shot, just collapsed .

Dumb statement, but I need to re-sight it in when changing rounds.
Absolutely.

IIRC mil-spec accuracy/precision calls for roughly 3 MOA for M193 and the M855 (green tip). That's still a lot smaller than your hand at 100 yards.

Find the ammo that shoots the tightest groups in your rifle - then buy a case of it.
