Update on a strange year so far. When I moved into this house, I had no birds. I did a lot of tree trimming and got multiple pairs the next year. I think the 2021 freeze killed my birds, as I had none that year. in 2022, one pair landed on the house and thought I would have a nest. Nope, none last year.

Earlier this year, I had a pair land. Only saw them once. FF to this morning and a female was circling the house. I just called my fiancé and I could hear martin chirping in the background. When exactly do they build nests? Is there hope?

my first year with a house. I have questions..

If they migrate that far north how long will they use my house? Where do they nest to lay eggs?

I'm in WM (NELA)

My dad would have loved this page, he built houses and poles for Martins all his life.

We have a camp on lake D'arbonne where he had the gourds up high on the metal pole.

We would sit on the deck in the evening and watch them scoop bugs off the lake or maybe drinking whatever they were doing.

I am not sure exactly what you are asking. The birds nest pretty much exclusively in man made or supplied items. They arrive in late winter/spring and are grouping up to leave in July. All gone by the end of the month for the most part.

There are Martins that stop and build nests on the coast, middle of the state, north La, further north and even all they way to Canada. I think it is based for the most part on where they were born. Martins born in Wisconsin are more likely to return to that area. All Martins nest, lay eggs and raise their fledglings in North America; then they all fly back to Brazil for the winter.

Some Martins may stop and rest for a few days before heading north, but at this point, they should be beginning to select houses and build nests. This is an odd year. Seems like everyone is behind on the normal time table.

After crossing the Gulf of Mexico, I have no idea why they would want to continue to fly further than the southern states.

Yes, there is still a chance. Be sure to watch at dusk to see if you see them fly in the house. They are quick and sometimes go straight in like a missile.

Good luck!

Good luck. 4-5 times I’ve had birds going in and every hole in my house, talking more than my wife when drinking, leaving and coming back but I got nothing. Done shot about 20 male sparrows trying to homestead but I’m about to let them have it

I wonder what's going on when that happens?

Had some around recently and as soon as I put the house up they were in it. Several there now. Hope to add some more houses next year.
