Looking for advice here.

Just traded in my 2020 Silverado 2500hd with 6.6 Gas.
Truck had 23k miles and was nearly 2 years old.
I received $5k more than what I bought the truck for.

Essentially purchased same truck but with Duramax.
New 2021.
Had to wait for it to be built. Signed paperwork 3 weeks ago.
Go to drive it off the lot yesterday and transmission downshifting really hard just before stop.
Like from 2nd to 1st gear basically.
They look at it and tell me they've never seen this.
But there is definitely something wrong. They think just an electronic issue I guess.

Of course I'm very reluctant to accept this truck now.
What are my options?

Can I tell them I don't want it?
I'm thinking that if I do actually take it, I'm going to request an extended warranty.

Tell them to fix it.

Got nothing on the transmission but how did you like the 6.6 gas?

There should have been something different to sign accepting delivery
Shouldn't have signed that.

If you haven't accepted delivery yet, probably so. You aren't getting out of the contract though and they aren't going to just send you another one. Youll still be vehicle-less. The dealership should have not accepted delivery of it if its fricked up. Either way, definitely do not take it until its fixed. Leave it there and let them deal with GM on getting it fixed. At the bare minimum, its under warranty now. As for arguing for an extended warranty, good luck with the good fight.

Sorry to hear about the truck, surely the dealer can figure out what's wrong with it or remedy it. Interested on this as well. I was just pondering last night what makes a person choose gas over diesel in a truck that size, performance?

Secondhand and reading here, but the gasser saves 10K on the sticker and costs much less to maintain, but it doesn’t have the torque the diesel does. Curious to hear from someone who has actually owned one how it stacked up on performance.

In Louisiana, you have 3 days for a full refund on any purchase at a car dealership.

Ahh the 10k may be a big factor then. I have never owned a 3/4 or full ton, but all the people I know who do had diesel and I have always wondered that. I know that 7. whatever f250 gasser is supposedly stupid fast but idk if its any faster than its diesel counterpart.

To OP, these trucks (especially the big ones) are way too expensive to not make sure that shite is running right from the get go.

That’s what I’ve always heard.. I think it is tied into the “lemon law”, somehow...

I have a '16 GMC 2500 6.0 gasser. It can tow up to 14,500lbs in a 5th wheel setup. I have a 5th wheel that was 9000lbs dry so its probably sitting at 11-12k now. We've been camping since '17 about 6-10 times per yr, mostly within 2-3hrs of the MS Coast. That 6.0 is a beast! You won't win a 0-60 race when pulling and I'll only get 8mpg with the 5th wheel behind me. But like someone else said, it was $9-10k cheaper than the diesel when I bought it and for 6-10 camping trips a yr, I didn't need to spend the extra $$. I can buy a lot of gas for $9-10K.

No, you don’t. If you sign paperwork at dealership, drive vehicle away from dealership, get a couple miles from dealership, vehicle breaks in two, you own both pieces.

Thanks y’all. Update: they downloaded the data from the test run showed the transmission shifting down hard. Sent it directly to GM to analyze.

GM is saying that it’s a external control module on the outside of the transmission. They are sending the new part.

I think I’m fricked as far as taking delivery of the vehicle since I signed paperwork 3 weeks ago. But I told salesman I need a free extended warranty.
I’ll update if they give it to me.
Pretty disappointed so far

As for my 2020 6.6 gas. It was an excellent truck.
Got the custom which is just a work truck with better wheels basically.
Was the first person to buy one at the dealership in July 2019. So I had it for almost 2 years and 23k miles.

No issues, but 2 years isn’t really long enough to know enough about the longevity.

Avg 12-13 mpg mixed city/highway
Would get 15 mpg on interstate doing 75

Sticker price was 48k
I bought it for 46k with rebates
And I sold it back to dealer for 51k

If they fix it you have no problems.

Good start but they'll try to negotiate this down to a couple of oil changes.

I agree. It sucks it had an issue the first day, but what if it had an issue day 5. Its the luck of the draw. That is why you have a warranty.

This is incorrect. No such law in Louisiana. It is at the consent of the dealer.
