Anyone have tips on how to get grey ducks to commit. Had them all around today and they wouldn't come very close. Pissed me off all morning.

For me its soft calling, no mojos and dont wait for em to commit. If they are close enough take em

I hit em a few times with my gadwall call.. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But when it does, they're coming in hot!

There's a fine line for grays. Either dumb or too smart. If they start circling, take the shot when you have your chance.

That's just their nature. typical grey ducks.

Text me when you get a chance. Lost everything on my phone last week.

This.
Either they fall out of the sky and commit suicide with little needed persuasion, or they circle and flare off of live ducks. There doesn't seem to be middle ground with them. Grey duck decoys and a grey duck call help when they're being picky, but it really only brings them a little closer in for a passing shot. If they circle more than once, I find it very unlikely that they'll decoy so take a passing shot when you get it.

Oh I know we were trying but it was still borderline if we should shoot and only shot at a couple of groups because they would stay above the trees. I was just making sure I wasn't missing out on a secret. I hate them things sometimes.

Sucks, but I had yet to make a hunt this second half and it doesn't look like I'm going to.

Make note to ones self. Soak corn in a bucket for a week with water. Keep it full. That way when one puts it out, it will sink and not float away.

Many many years ago, lets just say when I was a kid, full 100lb sacks were dropped into ponds about two weeks before the season was open. I'm talking a couple thousand pounds. A week before the season, a trip was made back out there and a knife was pasted thru the sacks. Opening morning, the bottom of the ponds were gold.Just maybe that was in my dreams.
Down on the island, they used to have a red light set up down the bayou. Red, the man was at the landing, yellow, he was down in da parish, green, one was good all the was back up to New Orleans. Oh what people used to do. Green jeans didn't go on the water way back then.
My Dad was a market hunter way back in the day. He had a punt gun mounted in a pirogue. Oh the things he did back then.
