This happens in my wife's Lexus suv and my tundra. The digital readout resets when you shut off for a minute and restart. It's also done it on it's own once I've gotten a ways down the highway. As for the accuracy of it...dont bank on it. I drove my wife's SUV on "0 miles to empty" for 15-20 miles looking for a gas station once. Will NOT do that in the tundra @ 15 mpg on a good day

I got gas earlier today and didn't shut it off

Happens on my wife's Sienna as well. I filled up on the way to the beach last week when it said 45 miles to empty. Went inside, got snacks and a drink, so it was off for at least 10 minutes, and it didn't reset until a few miles down the interstate.

Stupid people, same ones that sit there on their cellphone while fueling up too.

The cellphone one is bunk, but the rest is reasonable.
I just don't see the point of idling for that long when I can shut it down, then restart.

Could be worse my 2010 read 60 miles left when i ran out of gas once. Needle was also closer to .25 tank too. Now i never trust the miles left

Just don't pass any gasoline stations without stopping to fill up and you'll be fine (probably).

i can normally get another 3 gallons in my Sequoia after the nozzles shuts off.

I couldn't tell you since I ignore this feature.
When I bought my first Tundra that spec'd a 25 gallon tank.....and I drove it until it said one mile till empty then I put 19.5 gallons in it.
I love my Tundras (on my third now), but that's the stupidest nanny ever. Just tell me how many miles I ACTUALLY have before I run out! Don't tell me I'm out when I have 5 gallons in the tank.
For years now I reset the average MPG and trip my odometer.
It's for the fuel pump. They supposedly overheat if they're not submerged.

Not if you own a Samsung phone.
